Only partially ...
I have always a one family player since Sims 1 ... basically hasn´t changed over the years.
The only difference is that in TS 2 if my next generation Sim moved out of the parental home, I would usually split my gameplay between the parents and the child ... but only because I wanted to avoid the age paradoxon (i.e. the child being older than the parents).
In TS 3 in this situation I would just have my parents get simulated by story progression (and would continue to play full time with the child Sim after him/her moved out from home).
In Sims 4 so far (due to no story progression and no inheritance) I avoid having child Sims moving out from home and instead have the home as generational home in which both generations of Sims live and die
