I haven't seen a single mermaid, other than Nalani... and I only know she's a mermaid because of the trailer. And I've been actively trying to find mermaids. So I think you're good.

I am a big fan of occult sims, have been playing in Sulani since the release and I haven't seen a single mermaid ingame.

Currently I am running a little challenge for myself. I won’t be allowed to play with a mermaid in my household until she has found mermadic kelp in the world. No luck so far :smile:

The mermaids are very much avoidable. Have even placed a bunch of my own mermaids in this save and they also keep themselves hidden.

While BB, CAS, and the world are gorgeous, there is not a lot to do game-play wise in this pack, especially as you do not like mermaids.

Like the others have said, they are pretty unintrusive, though I did see a couple of them swimming around when I played as a mermaid, and the ones that came to help me control the fire in my lot, while human, had noticeable supernatural features such as sharp teeth, blue hair, and pale skin. I also could not find them in the menu to edit them.

In your case, if you can, I would recommend waiting for a sale, or at least bundling it. Not knowing what expansions you have, I would recommend city living, seasons and cats and dogs over this one, and get famous to a certain extent. If you are primarily a builder or cas player, you will find some enjoyment, however, if you want gameplay, most of this stuff (swimming, fishing, lounge chairs) you can do in basegame already, and I don't think it will be worth it for you, as more work went into the mermaids than the other activities. But, each to their own. If you decide to get it, I hope you enjoy :).

I wouldn’t just in case, they totally break immersion ?? not unlike Santa Claus, the magic gnomes and weather machine from Seasons; or those totally realistic illnesses the cats and dogs get, turning them bright blue and giving them rainbow droppings; the wishing well, the money tree, cow plant, tree of emotions, death plant - Er the Grim Reaper? Resurrection potions, Elixirs of Life, I mean even the way the sims get dressed.
But ya know, mermaids are the deal breaker lol and not the talking dolphins?

Jokes aside, how do “realism” players even play the sims? You must have to avoid sooo many aspects of the game, there are literally “supernatural” elements everywhere..? Like it’s a big chunk of the sims experience you’re refusing to engage with?

I did the same, with 3 of my sims. It was fun to get it the hard way (buying the kelp with reward points being one of the easy ways).

You can get it exploring the cave but it is very random, so telling you about the cave (if you didn't already know about it) doesn't make it any easier (unless your sim has much better luck then my first one). I read you could also find it diving but never found any that way, so I don't know if that is true. I also didn't let my sims neglect their lives so some days they had no time to go cave exploring or diving.

On subject - as others said, you most likely won't even see any mermaids or mermen, unless your sims become merfolk aware.

As someone whose sims apparently had much better luck (I had a team of three sims take turns exploring the cave, one found ten kelp on his second try), I wasn't sure just how rare it was. I've had stupidly good kelp-luck since I got the pack, one of my sims found two while fishing, one got some from a dolphin and then the cave incident, I was under the impression that it was just super common, lol

Hmm... the mermaids are really not intrusive, they are plum difficult to find. So that should be ok.

I looove all the occult sims that said I can still see how someone might want to play the game in a different way than me. You could still like all the magical stuff but don’t enjoy playing with the occult lifestates :smile:

Well you know. If I love the occult sims to bits and pieces then it makes sense that there are some players on the other side of the spectrum.

Wait...there are talking dolphins??? I didn't know they talked. I love animals, so I might actually be okay with that bit, LOL.
