What are his traits? My Sim often gets tense because he has the Ambitious trait, and he's always worried about getting a promotion. I usually follow what the indicators suggest to do first. Dancing or listening to music also seems to help my Sim, or playing with toys (lol, he's also got the childish trait).
edit - oh, I see you've listed his traits...buy him a violin or guitar, or just have him listen to music, not dance. Have him cook or read a cookbook, or do something mischievous, like troll on forums. Work with his traits and whims (the wishes above his head icon).
