For me, he's fine as he is. However, in previous games, he loved children and animals (especially horses), such as when sim wants to resurrect a child or a pet in The Sims 2, he always gives them back in the perfect state no matter how much you pay. And how he sent the pets away. In The Sims 3, he gave the pet a hug before sending them away. Then in The Sims 2 and 3, he played with pets to send them to afterlife.
The Sims 1 Grim Reaper is more grumpy than in The Sims 4. When sim pleads with him, he may reject the plea, but if he accept, he and the sim will play rock-paper-sissors for sim's life to see, whether sim gets brought back to life as a normal sim or as a zombie (green skin, no personality points). You can even see his skull in this game.
