Oh also, another way of making your game enjoyable is to have a to-do list each time before you play a game. I've mentioned this a few times on other threads, but in case some of you haven't seen it, basically, you make a short list of about 3-5 things you want to accomplish in that game session.
It doesn't have to be goal-orientated like "get Sim to reach level 8 mischief" if you don't like that kinda goal-orientated stuff.
It could be really fun and random stuff like, "start a bar fight and make an enemy at the end of it", "hold a party and invite all your neighbors/colleagues", "try to find an alien in disguise" or "be friends with two public gardeners". I know this could still be considered as goals, but at least they are a bit different from skill building cuz these allow you to participate.

Thanks for posting that idea. I play with a little notebook that I keep filled with things I want to accomplish. Also for all the awesome ideas I get from posts like these.
