I love whims. I remember when I updated the game some time ago after a long break from the game and found that whims had been switched off - I genuinely panicked that they had been removed before reading that they were just switched off by default. The sims just feel more real to me because they have temporary whims, just like humans! Having said that, I don't agree with some of the whims (pool squares and bee boxes!) but on the whole, I feel that the game would be poorer without them.
I feel the same way @Mariefoxprice83- PegasymsNew SpectatorThe subject line pretty much says it all. I'm pretty shocked that whims seem to be completely abandoned. A few patches ago they were "disabled" and now whims need to be turned on in settings. Now, no new whims for Island Living. I can understand not having any whims for the game packs such as Strangerville. But none for the expansion pack? What a incredible missed opportunity.
If the team decided to abandon whims because people weren't using them enough, that's because they weren't well designed and were overly repetitive. But no whims makes our sims even less interesting and unique.
I seriously hope that this lack of attention means there is an overhaul being planned. Because otherwise it's sad. I can't imagine University coming out with no whims to attend University. I'll never forget in Sims 2 when teenage sims had the Wants to attend college and the Fear of not attending. Sometimes it was frustrating, but it added a lot of depth. The human condition is to WANT. Aspirations, especially in this version are not a replacement. Ideally, both Whims/Wants and Fears would return in Sims 4.
If you are not considering this now, PLEASE consider revamping whims, and ideally, adding Fears. We are getting to the point where we have enough "stuff" for our Sims. Now we really need more depth. This game would be so incredibly improved with these types of adjustments to the Sims themselves. - PegasymsNew SpectatorI just wanted to comment I wholeheartedly agree with the OP and I hope they don't mind I created another thread calling attention to this issue, because the more I thought about it, the more upsetting it became...
- Yes, PREACH IT! I use the whims even though they are repetitive and there isn't anything new added. They are a huge part of the personal depth to an individual sim. Getting married, having kids, buying or replacing things in their household etc. Going off what they want makes the game more interesting and intriguing (at least for me).
- It feels like they have just given up on whims. I hope I am wrong.

yes it is upsetting if you can tweet about this to a sim guru tell them how you feel if we all do that maybe they will reconsider @Pegasys"Pegasys;d-961747" wrote:

This 100%. The sims themselves need an overhaul more than any new objects and clothes. The whims are just one example. The execution of them is just plain bad. All off the sims get the same whims and it seems not to matter if they make sense or not. Every sim seems to want to buy a bee box, even if the sim is lazy. Every sims seems to want to buy pet toys, even if they don't have a pet. The whims should properly reflect the sims, lifestyle, traits, and aspiration.
I am also hoping that the reason for these changes is because they are planning an update on them and that they didn't put new ones in Island Living because the system is being worked on. It would be horrible to abandon them at this point, especially when the sims already have such little depth and variety between them.- Agree. I love the whims. Use them all the time - wish there were new whims for the new pack seeing it is an ep for heavens sake.
I do love this pack but when it is lacking something it is a much bigger deal when it is an ep for sure. - I wish they would tell us if they have stopped whims altogether I think I would rather know for sure instead of wondering
