Things I didn't know about the game

So while playing the pack challenge there are several things that has surprised me (though many probably shouldn't) that I figured I could share with others, and hopefully others will want to share their findings as well.

  • You can get invited to an NPC's birthday party. I only learnt this when playing basegame because apparently this can only happen if there is nothing else planned for the day, so festivals, holidays and such will interfere with the possibility. But it can and does happen, and better yet, it worked fine. There was a cake, candles were blown out, the NPC aged up... worked like a charm.
  • There is swimmable waters in Gilbert Gardens in San Sequoia! How could I have missed this? I'm certain I read that you cannot swim in San Sequoia, but you can!
  • Also in Gilbert garden your sims can go jobbing together. As in side by side, waiting for each other, looking at each other. Now the rest of the game please...
  • You can be asked to be eaten by a cow plant as a job assignment as a gardener. Seems a bit hard core to me...
  • You can woohoo in the outhouse we got in one of the reward events, but not in any other toilet or toilet stall.

What have you learnt about the game and it's features that you didn't know (but probably should have known?)

This is a bit shame it happens so rarely these days. Happened all the time when I had less packs than now.  It was often the way I got to know how other houses looked like from inside. Naturally was  long time ago and the time before I renovated/replaced all the lots myself.

Time to consider another career path 😁

Yeah, I wish this happened more regularly, but there is apparently something about nodes, whatever that is and it can only happen if certain conditions are met. I think I have too many holidays (as I have one for every birthday of my sims, and they are getting too many now.) So I don't know how to work that out, because I want more invitations like that.

I didnt know this it has never happened to me. Maybe because I have all packs and things are always happening 😢

I nearly always worked as gardener for my  sims first job. But never got this request. I do normally try and grow a cow plant ready. Maybe my next sim will be lucky and get this request before they change jobs 🤣

  • You can have your own custom grim reaper.
First you need a sim for that. Customize however you want. Next you place the sim somewhere where it cant bother you. Now you need to get rid of the default grim reaper. Since kill debug cheats dont work for me, I had to find another way to delete him. Once gone, go to your new grim reaper and enter this cheat: traits.equip_trait IsGrimReaper
Finally, go to household management and set the new grim reaper to unplayed. The next time you witness a death, the new grim reaper should appear.

You can have frogs in your ponds. Place water lilies on the pond and in live mode click on teh lilies to enable the frogs.

You can resize pretty much everything in build mode using Strg - ß and ´. On european keyboards is next to the delete key above the enter key.

The same works with raising and lowering. Strg - 9 and 0.

If you play with eco footprint and you want the sun rays on the map screen and fresh air or smog, look for trees that add "eco footprint green" and place 20-30 on a single tile on a lot. You need to do this for each lot in that area of the map so the overall footprint goes up. If you want smog, place "household power generator" or "atmospheric water generator". They dont need as much as green since these change the industrial footprint by +7 while trees at most offer only +2 to green.

For full control over where clutter is placed on tables, kitchen counters and any surface, place the surface, place the item you want on the surface. It will snap to the hight and a specific spot on the surface. Now move the surface away, grab the item while holding down Alt key. Now move the item where you want it to be. It will be in the air now but it remains its hight as long as it doesnt snap to a surface. Once you have it where you want, place it and return the surface item under it. This way you can theoretically place countless items on a surface that normally only supports a handful.

You can control how people sit on benches that have seats on more than one side. Just use stones that block the sides you dont want your sims to use.

  • Sometimes in Gilbert Gardens, San Sequoia you'll see sims run away in terror because they spotted the escaped alligator

and you can spot it for yourself. It doesn't do much but stare at the ducks and sink into the water

    and

If you go into CAS and  change swatch on a puddle, an option is to change it to a duck 😄
