And this is why I just cut out the middle man, so to speak. When sims become parents, they also lose any smarts they may have had. They aren't capable of taking care of themselves for the most part, and certainly not taking care of little ones. And what's with their need to go and WATCH the toddlers all the time?! They don't do anything, just stand there and LOOK at their offspring. Its pointless.
I make sure there is plenty of food in the fridge, so the bundle of joy can help him/herself. The parents are allowed to interact with them for socials and bathtime. That's it. No high chairs in any of my houses, ever. Like it was said, avoid them like the plague (like many other objects sims obsess over). I've saved myself plenty of frustration by just keeping the caretakers busy with their own things, and taking care of the toddlers myself.
