TS4U - Semester 1, Course 2: Occult Studies

University Hub
Welcome to 'Occult Studies'.

The sims world is rife with concepts and creatures that are...extraordinary. This course's purview is to delve deeper into the world of the occult and explore the supernatural facets of a sim's existence.

Unnatural Objects
Objects of power or intrigue.

  • The large stuffed bat from 'Vampires' exhibits what peculiar quirk relative to the titular occult of the pack?

  • Becomes sad when near garlic.
  • Has no reflection.
  • Teleports around the lot in a puff of black mist.
  • Transforms into a normal stuffed bear.

  • The ancient spirits of the Omiscan people embodied three aspects of Simming: storytelling (Zazatototl), cheating (Balampalsoh), and torturing sims (Totecallama). When their relic tops are combined with a base (Watcher (a sim's life does not move forward without the game being played), Chaos (unexpected occurrences), and Death (the natural cycle of life for a sim)) and a refined crystal, one is given a fraction of their powers, granting a relevant effect per combination. Which of these combinations provides a sim instant "good friends" status with previously unmet sims?

  • Balampalsoh + Watcher
  • Totecallama + Chaos
  • Balampalsoh + Chaos
  • Zazatototl + Watcher

  • The 'Whispering Wishing Well' from 'Romantic Garden' grants 7 different wishes (each with 6 potential outcomes). Which of these is not a wishing option available to a sim?

  • Friendship
  • Love
  • A child
  • Happiness

    It's In The Blood
    All about vampires.

  • Vampires are immune to quite a few (though not the majority) of deaths in-game. Which of these are they not immune to?

  • Research Machine Overuse (Discover University)
  • Poison (Jungle Adventure)
  • Starvation
  • Shark Attack (Island Living)

  • The vampiric ability 'Drain Life Spirit' robs a sim of their energy, as well as the entirety of their built-up relationships (going as far as to annul marriages and other bonding labels). The ability to 'Restore Life Spirit' does not restore what has been taken, but grants the recipient a powerful confident moodlet, and protects from vampiric influence for a time. The aforementioned can be done by any vampire who has the power. What is the caveat to this?

  • The recipient must be a mortal.
  • The recipient must be asleep.
  • The recipient must have been drained of their life spirit prior.
  • The recipient must have been bitten (any "Drink Plasma" option) prior.

  • Vampires have 5 needs, the major one being 'Vampiric Energy', which governs how many powers a vampire can use in one go, as well as how long they can stay awake. This replaces the 'Energy' need, as well as which other?

  • Social
  • Bladder
  • Hygiene
  • Hunger

    Where The Magic Happens
    All about spellcasters.

  • The Magic Realm is host to 'Casters Alley', a spectre-run set of vending stalls that sell anything a budding (or experienced) caster could ever want/need for their mystical endeavours. One such stall sells potion materials. Which of the following items is part of its stock?

  • Zombie Carl (MySims)
  • Heart Frog
  • Peach (crystal)
  • Firaxium (element)

  • Spellcaster Perks run the gamut from being useful in day-to-day casting, to being only useful in the Magic Realm. Which of the following provides extra yield(s) per collectible spawn within the Magic Realm?

  • Forager
  • Insightful Eye
  • Mote Hound
  • A Little Extra Chemistry

  • There are quite a few spells available to the avid caster, but a vast majority can only be cast upon others, not the caster themself. Which of the following can be self-casted?

  • Copypasto
  • Infatuate
  • Duplicato
  • Minionize

    Supernaturally Gifted
    A mix of occult information.

  • Which object/ability can help to bypass the need to "Attempt Introduction" with a celebrity sim?

  • Siren's Call (Merfolk that don't have the "Good" trait)
  • Infatuate (Spellcaster)
  • Summon (Voodoo Doll)
  • Vampiric Charm/Allure/Fascination (Minor Vampire)

  • Which object/ability can cause a contagious effect?

  • Deprive Needs (Vampires)
  • Totecallama Watcher Relic (Jungle Adventure)
  • Strangeify (Spellcasters)
  • Night's Requiem (Merfolk)

  • Which object/ability is guaranteed to kill an elder (mortal) sim?

  • Control Emotion: Embarrassed (rank 3 - Grand Master Vampire)
  • Zazatototl Death Relic + Rare Refined Crystal: Poison Curse (Jungle Adventure)
  • Inferniate in a locked room, cast on the floor (Spellcasters)
  • Death-Scented Flower Arrangement gift (Seasons)

    Answer Key:

    Unnatural Objects
    Objects of power or intrigue.

  • The large stuffed bat from 'Vampires' exhibits what peculiar quirk relative to the titular occult of the pack?

  • Becomes sad when near garlic.
  • Has no reflection. - The stuffed bat has no reflection when placed down in front of a mirror. It does whilst being held/moved, but that disappears afterwards.
  • Teleports around the lot in a puff of black mist.
  • Transforms into a normal stuffed bear.

  • The ancient spirits of the Omiscan people embodied three aspects of Simming: storytelling (Zazatototl) , cheating (Balampalsoh), and torturing sims (Totecallama). Which of these combinations provides a sim instant "good friends" status with previously unmet sims?

  • Balampalsoh + Watcher
  • Totecallama + Chaos
  • Balampalsoh + Chaos - Balampalsoh noted the strong relationship bonds between sims. One of her favourite ways to cause mischief in a sim's life was to add new relationships into the mix. - Excerpt from build mode.
  • Zazatototl + Watcher

  • The 'Whispering Wishing Well' from 'Romantic Garden' grants 7 different wishes (each with 6 potential outcomes). Which of these is not a wishing option available to a sim?

  • Friendship - The Well has options for Love, A Child, Money, Promotion, Skills, Youth, and Happiness.
  • Love
  • A child
  • Happiness

  • Research Machine Overuse (Discover University)
  • Poison (Jungle Adventure)
  • Starvation
  • Shark Attack (Island Living) - Despite being classed as "drowning", vampires are susceptible to shark attacks.

- Only sims who've had their life spirits drained can be restored, regardless of their current occult status, how long it's been in the interim, or what vampire first drained them of said life spirit.

  • Social
  • Bladder - Vampires don't poop. Go figure. One can only imagine any ingested food/drink is dissolved somehow.
  • Hygiene
  • Hunger

  • Zombie Carl (MySims) - The 'Potion of Prompt Resurrection' requires Death Metal, Death Flower, and Zombie Carl.

  • Forager - Located on the right-hand side of the perks UI, this perk grants more items when harvesting magical ingredients in the Magic Realm (this also seems to work for non-ingredients, so long as they're found in the realm).
  • Insightful Eye
  • Mote Hound
  • A Little Extra Chemistry

  • There are quite a few spells available to the avid caster, but a vast majority can only be cast upon others, not the caster themself. Which of the following can be self-casted?

  • Copypasto
  • Infatuate
  • Duplicato - This spell clones the caster temporarily.
  • Minionize

    Supernaturally Gifted
    A mix of occult information.

  • Which object/ability can help to bypass the caster's need to "Attempt Introduction" with a celebrity sim?

  • Siren's Call (Merfolk that don't have the "Good" trait)
  • Infatuate (Spellcaster)
  • Summon (Voodoo Doll)
  • Vampiric Charm/Allure/Fascination (Minor Vampire) - Upon self-cast, this cloud of pink mist draws in those of the caster's preferred gender (who also prefer the caster's gender). The affected will then flirt with the caster, bypassing the celebrity social barrier.

  • Which object/ability can cause a contagious effect?

  • Deprive Needs (Vampires)
  • Totecallama Watcher Relic (Jungle Adventure) - The Totecallama Watcher Relic bestows the 'Curse of the Ancients', which gives a sim a contagious effect (different depending on refined crystal rarity) that can pass on to other sims.
  • Strangeify (Spellcasters)
  • Night's Requiem (Merfolk)

  • Which object/ability is guaranteed to kill an elder (mortal) sim?

  • Control Emotion: Embarrassed (rank 3 - Vampires)
  • Zazatototl Death Relic + Rare Refined Crystal: Poison Curse (Jungle Adventure)
  • Inferniate cast on the floor (Spellcasters)
  • Death-Scented Flower Arrangement gift (Seasons) - When gifted to a sim, this will age them up by one lifestage. If the recipient is an elder, this will send them into Grim's waiting arms.

My apologies for forgetting the explanations to each answer. The Answer Key has been updated.

Better, 3 wrong this time. Once again @KyreRoen you know how to find my weaknesses.? I rarely play merfolk or spellcasters so I had to just guess on those.

      @DaniRose2143
I rarely play either of the two, myself. Took a bit for me to figure out that a certain trait blocks certain mermaid abilities, and I just can't seem to get into spellcasters. Still, I have the relevant packs, and they do pop up from time to time, so I know some things.

      Kudos, though. You did well.
    • @KyreRoen Once again I talked myself into a lower score by overthinking instead of going with my gut. They were things I've seen once or twice, but couldn't quite remember. Thank you, this was fun.
    • This is where my low fantasy setting gets to bite me in the backside. My score: 8/12

I mixed C and D up, thinking “Minionize” created a copy of the caster sim as a servant, although I don’t know what I thought Duplicato would do. Mind blank.

    • My score is 10/12.

I missed this one: The ancient spirits of the Omiscan people embodied three aspects of Simming: storytelling (Zazatototl) , cheating (Balampalsoh), and torturing sims (Totecallama).

I have only played through Jungle Adventure once. This makes me want to play it again.

Also this one: Which object/ability can help to bypass the caster's need to "Attempt Introduction" with a celebrity sim?

      I don't own Get Famous.

      Fun quiz! Thank you!

      @EnkiSchmidt
Regardless of how you play, you still gave it a shot. Something...something...missing 100% of shots, and all.
      @telemwill
Glad you had fun, and feel free to drop by the previous course or any future ones.
