We Need Real Multitasking

Why do my sims have to stand in front of the coffee maker while coffee brews? Can't they go ahead and use the bathroom, start cooking, or generally get something done during that time? Same with the oven, it's so ridiculous that they just stand in front of it while the food bakes. Why can't either of these things just work like the washing and dryer so sims can do something while coffee brews or food gets baked and just come back later to take it out?
  • Normally what I do with the coffee situation is cancel the action after they've intially started making coffee. It's a hassle having to do that but it gets the job done just in case my sim needs to use the bathroom or their baby is crying and needs attention right away. The coffee or tea continues to brew and my simgets other things done while they "wait" lol but I agree with the the comment about not wanting to multitask in the morning before a cup of coffee lol.

i was under the impression what when sims 4 was advertised and released our sims were meant to be: great multitaskers, able to remember things, and more in touch with their emotions.

so im pretty sure, IMO at least, they fell short. they take forever to do anything (i dont mod), they take forever to cancel an action, they dont remember and their emotions are another topic altogether.

im all for being able to do other things while food bakes, and beverages brew and if we forget and the food burns or the beverage gets cold well thats some added realism right there.

when the kettle is boiling for my coffees im on the computer or watching tv, or cleaning something and if i forget thats all good coz i can turn the kettle back on and this time id stand there so as to not forget a second time.

we have timers for the food that takes a while to cook. if we get there too slow when the timer beeps and its overcooked/burnt thats on us

i think if we want to leave something on when our sims are finished we should have a 'stop using but leave on' option. i often walk away from my computer or tv and leave them on if i have something quick that needs doing, and then resume where i left off; its a hassle, especially the computer, turning things back on every 10-15 mins some days. if our sims could play music through the tv or computer theyd be on all day.

Yeah they overhyped the key features trying to cover the games shortcomings, which outnumbered any new ideas the game offered. There were so many miscommunicated selling points that ultimately it showed even the studio didn’t quite know what players were going to end up with - and in the end we didn’t even end up with exactly what their own advertising made the game out to be.

? And yet they still have not learned from their initial mistake ?
  • Things that work well in S4 tend to be things that were coded as a single action, so that Sims don't get distracted and start multitasking in the middle. The high chair is the perfect example - if put the child in the high chair and give food were all one action, you wouldn't have Sims taking the toddler out of the chair before the food is served.

You would have the same problem with cooking - Sims would suddenly get a whim to 'check toddler' or 'cook food' or 'talk to the toilet', and people would be complaining that their Sims were starving because they could never finish cooking a meal.

I was using that mod, but for some strange reason it would remove the "Call to Meal" option for me. Even after she updated it, it's still doing the same thing. And I honestly think I'm the only person who uses her mods, that is having that issue. lol

Probably a conflict between her mod and some other mod you are using, @GoldenBuffy.

@Noree_Doree When you cancel the coffee/tea-brewing, does it actually finish so you can go back and get a cup? I thought I'd tried that once and never got any tea. Or do you I just need to time it better (i.e. cancelled a little too soon)?
