20x30 or smaller. I hate landscaping and I prefer playing smaller families otherwise someone gets neglected
I'm finally getting more use out of larger lots now we can make Residential Rentals, though.
Larger lots are great for Residential Rentals @EmmaVane 🙂
I have been seeing many great and creative that simmers have been posting on the Gallery using larger sized lots which have a number of units.

The gallery has some amazing builds highlighting the incredible imagination, creativity and abilities of the simming community.
Personally, I still struggle with finer building skills, not to mention all the decorating and landscaping, which is probably why I usually only use the smaller lots up to 30 x 30 for residential builds. The 30 x 30 is a perfect size for me - space for home, outdoor living, hobbies and even some animals. I use the 40 x 30 lots for community spaces, recreational centres, gym/spa combos and community parks. I’ve also used a 40 x 30 lot to build a camping and fishing area that has quite a few plants that have grown from discarded seeds. In my games, I consider this lot to be the halfway point between where my sims live and the longer distance destinations eg living on the outskirts of the city and travelling to the desert worlds, Mt Komorebi, Sulani, or the vacation worlds….
I have to admit that I enjoy the 10 x 10 (100 squares) building and landscaping challenge, as well as James Turner’s Tiny Home Challenge generator with some of the requirements becoming rather difficult to complete. I always start by creating the Sims that are supposed to live there according to the challenge generated and then I usually end up playing them as I get too attached and immersed in their background story that I have created for them. Two of my favourite starter homes have come as a result of these challenges.

The smaller sized lots are great for challenges @OzSimsFamily 🙂 Before Sims 4 was released there were some great threads on the Sims 3 forums, which had challenges involving the small lots and it was enjoyable seeing the different types of homes and community lots that simmers designed, and how they used the smaller sized lots.

Sorry, slightly off topic, but following the challenges theme, I also love seeing the results of the shell challenges. It is fascinating how many different types of buildings simmers can create from the same basic shell. There are so many seriously talented simmers.
