@Yautjagirl yes, I was a control freak too... And I realized that's one of the reasons I couldn't get past generation 2. My born-in-game sims were so perfect it was incredibly dull playing them. They learned every skill in two minutes, had tons of friends and pristine reputation, etc, so I was like... what to do with them? Where is all the struggle? ?
I also stopped giving my sims the most cheaty bonus traits. They just have tens of thousands points now.
