What is a good graphics card to upgrade to?

If you wanted to get the best graphics card to upgrade for playing the Sims on PC what would you choose? Money isn't a concern. This is more about what will give the best performance.

  • I'd get a GTX 1080-Ti. I think everything better than that will give you pretty much the same performance in the Sims 4 but it also really depends on what resolution you're gonna be playing in. I think a gtx 1080-ti can easily handle that 4K res in ultra settings.
However, a CPU as good as your graphics card is a must especially when playing the sims 4, so you it is important to make sure the other hardware in your PC doesn't bottleneck your new card, or you won't be able to use it to its fullest potential.
  • Yeah, that's one of my problems cause my processor is as old as my graphics card so probably need to just replace both.
  • Thanks. That was really my concern. My PC is well over a decade old and really needs replacing but I'd rather not so I have to work with the CPU I have so don't want to over buy on the power in the graphics card if it isn't going to be something I'm going to even be aware of. Someone should come up with a standardization on naming these cards too.

If you want to play on Ultra in HD you would have to get something like a gtx 1060 6gb or better but if your PC is over a decade old your CPU, RAM and probably your power supply won't be up to par and the card won't be utilized really well. I suggest going through all of the hardware in your system and figuring out what will need replacement. The best option in my eyes (especially if you have the money) is to just build a new PC or buy a Pre-built (be careful to not get ripped off). If your PC is so old I think it's high time upgrading it.

Depending on your the age of your CPU what kind of GPU you wish to upgrade to will matter. The latest and greatest GPU will not play well with an CPU that is too old as long and it also goes vice versa as long as they are not too old but performance may be less again depending on the age.
  • I've got NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 and it is AMAZING. Its also the best one I've ever had but sometimes I will watch TV on my laptop instead of the TV just because it is so clear. Sims always runs super smooth and looks awesome. and other games like watchdogs or gta look basically lifelike. (it also comes on my laptop, I don't know what cards they have available)
  • I have an Nvidia RTX 2080 Ti. It's probably way more than needed for Sims 4. The game plays beautifully on my 1440p 34 inch monitor.

If you're upgrading parts - consider upgrading everything together so that you don't get any bottlenecks or else you may not get the full potential out of whatever you choose to upgrade.
