I can confirm the chess bug, happened to me yesterday, and some doors and windows from Get Together are broken, too. The latter is especially annoying for me because I need those doors to keep filming my series. Homework is not broken for university students at least, can't say anything about kids.
Plum, I should really have known better! I saw that there was an update coming the other day, but it didn't happen automatically because I was in a game session. Then I looked at the patch notes and thought: "Oh, just a few little things, what can go wrong?" And so I restarted Origin... I had the chance to avoid this update of doom, but I didn't. How could I be so naive?? :D
"Patch Day Apocalypse". :D Never heard a more fitting term for what's happening here. I'm going to call Patch Day Apocalypse Day from now on!
