I always do those too
What I always do in addition to the things mentioned above:
1. I'm a rotational player, I always play that way: I have many played families/households in all of my different saves. I like to play different types of households.
Spoiler
(families, single sim households, couples, siblings or friends -households living together in the same house or apartment.)
And always my played families/households are connected some way: they are family members or relatives living in different homes or they are good friends with each other, so their lives are tied together.
I enjoy the variety so playing rotational is the best way for me: I can play different sims and households in different worlds and in different homes.
2. Play premades. In all of my saves, I play at least one, few or more premades (I do play my own created sims as well, and also sims that I've downloaded from the gallery). I always do makeovers for the premades that I'm playing: for some of them just a small makeover (can be small style changes), but some of them get bigger makeovers.
I like to make them more my own characters based on my gameplay plans.
Spoiler
For those bigger makeovers I often use the cas.fulleditmode -cheat.
āŖFor few of the premades, I also change their names, and there is especially one premade that I always change her name: Penny Pizzazz, I just dislike that name for some reason so she always gets a new name: Delia Rizzi. One other example of changing the names is the Fyres family: Dominick and Siobhan I keep as they are, but Moira I change to Miranda, and Morgan I change to Silvia
Spoiler
(because I like that name better for her and I like that both sisters have a name starting with the letter S, and that the next letter is i as well).
āŖAmong my played premades there are always some changes to their lives,
for some of them just small changes: for example starting a new career, but for some of them there are bigger changes: for example a divorce and finding a new spouse.
An example of the life changes: in one save that I'm playing Fyres family's sims, Moira aka Miranda and Dominick are divorced and Moira aka Miranda is now married with Salim Benali (and they have kids together also).
3. Give my sims beautiful, well decorated homes. I love beautiful environments and I love building and decorating so I enjoy creating nice homes for my sims.
āŖI use the "free real estate" -cheat, if there is already a good house or apartment for my sims to move in.
āŖBut more often I do this way:
First I build the house & decorate it/
I renovate & decorate the apartment, and when it's ready, I check the price of the house/apartment, then I temporarily move the household to some random empty lot (usually a cheap lot) and go into live mode and use the money cheats to give them just enough money so that they can afford the home + so that they have about 2000 - 10 000 simoleons left to use after buying the home (depending on the size of the household). So they can buy the home but from then on, they need to earn money to pay their bills etc. If and when the bills are high in the beginning, I use money cheat so that they can pay the bills, but right after that I change the funds back to the way it was.
4. Put a thermostat to all of my sims homes and to community lots as well. I also put fire alarms.
5. When playing in live mode, I always use pause - a lot. I use it to check the things and situations, to check the needs of the sims and to put tasks for sims. Control freak? Maybe
