I always do those too
What I always do in addition to the things mentioned above:
1. I'm a rotational player, I always play that way: I have many played families/households in all of my different saves. I like to play different types of households.Spoiler(families, single sim households, couples, siblings or friends -households living together in the same house or apartment.)
And always my played families/households are connected some way: they are family members or relatives living in different homes or they are good friends with each other, so their lives are tied together.
I enjoy the variety so playing rotational is the best way for me: I can play different sims and households in different worlds and in different homes.
2. Play premades. In all of my saves, I play at least one, few or more premades (I do play my own created sims as well, and also sims that I've downloaded from the gallery). I always do makeovers for the premades that I'm playing: for some of them just a small makeover (can be small style changes), but some of them get bigger makeovers.
I like to make them more my own characters based on my gameplay plans.SpoilerFor those bigger makeovers I often use the cas.fulleditmode -cheat.
▪For few of the premades, I also change their names, and there is especially one premade that I always change her name: Penny Pizzazz, I just dislike that name for some reason so she always gets a new name: Delia Rizzi. One other example of changing the names is the Fyres family: Dominick and Siobhan I keep as they are, but Moira I change to Miranda, and Morgan I change to SilviaSpoiler(because I like that name better for her and I like that both sisters have a name starting with the letter S, and that the next letter is i as well).
▪Among my played premades there are always some changes to their lives,
for some of them just small changes: for example starting a new career, but for some of them there are bigger changes: for example a divorce and finding a new spouse.
An example of the life changes: in one save that I'm playing Fyres family's sims, Moira aka Miranda and Dominick are divorced and Moira aka Miranda is now married with Salim Benali (and they have kids together also).
3. Give my sims beautiful, well decorated homes. I love beautiful environments and I love building and decorating so I enjoy creating nice homes for my sims.
▪I use the "free real estate" -cheat, if there is already a good house or apartment for my sims to move in.
▪But more often I do this way:
First I build the house & decorate it/
I renovate & decorate the apartment, and when it's ready, I check the price of the house/apartment, then I temporarily move the household to some random empty lot (usually a cheap lot) and go into live mode and use the money cheats to give them just enough money so that they can afford the home + so that they have about 2000 - 10 000 simoleons left to use after buying the home (depending on the size of the household). So they can buy the home but from then on, they need to earn money to pay their bills etc. If and when the bills are high in the beginning, I use money cheat so that they can pay the bills, but right after that I change the funds back to the way it was.
4. Put a thermostat to all of my sims homes and to community lots as well. I also put fire alarms.
5. When playing in live mode, I always use pause - a lot. I use it to check the things and situations, to check the needs of the sims and to put tasks for sims. Control freak? Maybe   - Daephene1New SpectatorI tend to make different rules for each save rather than do the same every time. I usually will start out with a single sim or a couple and they either start out a bit like a rags to riches challenge on an empty lot or in an apartment. I have a lot more hours in my rotational saves but I do have a couple of saves that are one household. And one that has no occults.
The thing that will always be in every one of my games is multiple generations. I can't be entertained by the YA or Adult stages for very long. - EmmaVaneSeasoned VeteranI always start with:
- Single sims, as I like to meet my sims' partners/have kids via gameplay (except if bigger household required for challenge, such as Random Legacy helpers).
- Whatever starter funds I'm given, or 0 after purchasing a lot (Rags to Riches style). Students can also apply for scholarships & loans and move into University Housing or an Apartment once they get into uni and have the funds come through.
- If they are 2nd gen or later or moving out of a shared house (like BFF/Roomies) they get an equal share of household funds based on number of sims in original household. Consecutive sims moving out get the same amount reserved for them for fairness. The last sim to leave a shared house has the funds reduced to match the other tenants, unless I think they own the house outright (ex. J Huntington III seems like a rich sim who might own the house he lives in and Marcus Flex owns the Partyhaus warehouse according to the household bio).

- Cat Lovers/Dog Lovers get a pet via the phone/PC adoption panel once I can afford a food bowl. Animal Enthusiasts might also get a pet/object creature, but in that case I might roll a die to decide the type or base it on their personality/environment.
- Sims with social traits will usually join a Club/Org/Pack of some kind.
- Ambitious sims always need standard careers due to Wants and Moods relating to this trait. Renaissance Sim aspiration goes well with the Noncommittal trait due to the job changes.
- If I start with a Story Mode sim then I randomise my answers with a 4-sided die (answers 1-3, plus skip question). I'll base their appearance on their rolled stats. Once a Story Mode sim is placed I re-enter CAS to set their prefs based on the career/skills they rolled. I might also write a family bio for them based on how I interpret the results.

'freerealestate on' to get them in the house.
I also will cheat Cooking skill up to 2 to avoid fires because they're really not spontaneous, they're expected during the first cook.
I usually just prepare Fruit Salad and other raw dishes until they get a few levels. Fruit Salad is usually a good option on Simple Living lots because it uses Any Fruit. They might occasionally grill autonomously if a grill is on the lot/nearby, though cooking group meals and making sure there are always leftovers reduces their need to autonomously cook things. - ThriorTheSecondSeasoned Newcomer
- I always start a new Sims game with a family of one male sim. Also, the sim I started TS4 with was kinda paying homage to my TS3 one while the TS3 one was paying homage to my TS2 one. If I ever get to TS5 I’m pretty sure the cycle will continue. (Btw I played TS1 too but I can't remember what was my first family, though my most memorable one was again a single male. I guess he's the one who kickstarted this.)
- Whenever I create new sims, they are always single. I just prefer them to form relationships through actual gameplay. I have never created couples in CAS.
- I seem to be incapable of having a “traditional happy family”, i.e. a mother and a father with their kids all happily ever after. This has been something that’s been going on since my TS2 days. Some might have had the proper setup but then there always seems to happen something that don’t make them quite “normal”. Like a bunch of occults get mixed in or there’s some drama going on like the family members hating each other or someone having an affair or whatever. That’s not to say I don’t have happy families but for some reason I just seem to gravitate away from “traditional families”. I guess I just get bored with them. Like, I got interested in this townie family with 6 kids ONLY after NS decided to kill off the mother. I was like “this makes for a good story/challenge” and actually started playing them.
- I seem to always deliberately give my sims flaws so that there’s some “negative” aspect to their character, either via traits or gameplay. I have intentionally sabotaged the character values too because I don’t want every single sim to be responsible and good mannered. Some of the first mods I utilized were ones making things like skill gains more difficult. Grew tired how, if you play with long life span or aging off, basically all sims can become masters of the same things. Like, I need to eat so I'll cook the same simple dishes every day and, voilà, making those sandwiches for the 200th time now means I'm a master chef. Like... bruh! Now I’m even using MCCC to freeze skills which IMO don’t fit. With my vampires I choose weaknesses that fit the character or are otherwise interesting, never meta-gaming it by choosing the "best" (i.e. least intrusive) ones. Spellcasters intentionally don't take some perks, ignore certain magic schools, or deliberately leave curses to be in order to actually differ from each other. Werewolves too ignore some perks depending on the character.

- SmellincoffeeNew AdventurerRemove all televisions, grills, and sinks. Lock computers so visitors can't use them. Cheat motives for toddlers so I don't have to constantly tend to them.
- LadyKynSeasoned TravelerMajority of the time?
Leave them penniless unless I'm nice to start them off with just fifty simoleons. Usually homeless with hardly no possessions.
They can only have a part time job until they can qualify for something better. Traveling costs money, so they can't just go anywhere whenever they please. Eventually they can have an apartment while trying to save up for a home.
Good times.
I always like for my sim to struggle since it feels more like they earned everything rather than motherloding everything. "lizisprocrastinating;c-18227756" wrote:
Mostly cheat needs before sending to work and always choose "work hard" if necessary. Only cheat the slow building skills like charisma or photography.
I always forget to set 'work hard' or any of the other options.- @LadyKyn i also love the struggle. in my current save i got a tiny home cottage from the gallery, furnished it to my liking, got a chicken coop and two animal sheds, ten garden patches and bees and a tiny pond, then cheated her money to zero (after feeding all the animals and filling their feed bins of course). i deduct money for things like a livestock tax and a tax for having a wild rabbit home, she had to pay to get a passport (cc clutter that cost 35 and i add 100 on top of that) to travel outside of henford-on-bagley. i'm loving it.
- eliselove1New Rookie1) Use the aspiration cheat and use the points points for specific traits.
2) Use motherlode to make the house but then leave my sim with just enough money to get by.
3) Start off with a single sim, usually female
