What's Your Process for Naming Your Sims?

What is your process for naming your sims?

I like to match baby names to their heritage. For example, Cassandra Goth fell in love with a townie called Omar Ghomari. I looked up the surname Ghomari and found out it's Algerian. So, I researched common names from Algiers for their baby boy, and I found one I really loved - Tariq. I also like for my sims to be traditional and name children after former family members, but it's okay if the name is not an exact match, so I made his middle name Xander in honor of his uncle Alexander Goth.

(FYI, the relationship cheat does not work if you have a space in your name, so I put a hyphen between my sims' first and middle names in game, but when I'm writing them out in my blog, I just write them normally, with a space.)

So, I'm curious, do you have any special things you do to choose names for your children? Please share your process and pictures.

P.S. This is the first post I'm starting after becoming a full member. Thank you to everyone who got me here by liking my previous comments. I appreciate your friendship and support. I'm super happy to be able to ask you guys questions and share screenshots with you now. :)

    When it comes to naming sims in the game, I do one of these things;

    • Look up baby names on the computer, usually by nationality, depending on who the sim is.
    • Sometimes when creating a sim, I will think of a name that suits the sim.
    • Roll the dice.
    • Open up my phone book, close my eyes, and move my finger in a circle a couple of times, and touch the page. I do this one when I'm bored, and see what comes up randomly. lol

    You actually have a phone book?

    I have two phone books. A white pages and a yellow pages. Get new ones every year. Never use them, but it never stops them from delivering them.
  • I have the same two phone books. Once a year I come home from work and there they are on the porch swing. They make great doorstops to keep the door to the creepy basement open while I do laundry. I have never thought to use them for naming sims. I will have to give it a try.

    Mostly I hit the random name button until I see something I like.
    But for the family I'm playing now, I have a (DJ/musician) themed list of names. I either use (part) of their DJ/artist name or use their real name (if I know their 'real' names). I'm planning to play 4 of maybe 5 generations (I'm now on gen 2, still have to choose a heir for gen3).

    I have many ways. I usually take a common name like Michael and use Mikel instead. I love using unique names for my Sims so sometimes I'll get inspiration from instagram or tumblr.
  • Most of the time I just go to baby name websites and pick a name that I like. Sometimes I may name a sim after a relative. Even some sort of theme I have one set of siblings the sons all have S starting names like their Dad and the girls all have A starting names like their Mom.
