Why cars, everyone?

I don't understand the appeal of cars either. I hope the devs skip them and give us something else instead, like a new career, new empty world, new vacation world...

Personally agree with you, @Shepard...I see no reason for cars to be added. I see a lot of lots and homes in the gallery where the creator used the size increase tool to make the decorative/toy cars as big as a real car and then put it in a garage or driveway, and I personally don't see that it adds anything. First thing I would do if I used such a lot is delete the car (and re-purpose any garage to be a skill-building area or some-such).

If I lived in a world where I could insta-travel anywhere like my Sims do...I certainly wouldn't own a car.

I also didn't really care about them in TS2...and in TS3, only cared because they let my sim get places faster. Which, ironically, is only because the open world concept made it take annoyingly long to get anywhere. Heck, load screens in TS4 are way faster than the open world travel....its the reason I no longer actually miss open world, even a little bit.

I'm with @AbraKadabra, I'd much rather have a new world or vacation world. Especially if the new world included more apartment-style housing.

I agree with you. I don't see how cars would add anything to the game other than as a bit of 'clutter' to a garage. Cars are completely redundant in a game that doesn't have an open world.

Exactly @AbraKadabra, and a new world or vacation spot would enrich the game in so many more ways than cars would. The modded object cars serves as much purpose, basically just the looks. Wonder if modders can add a function so that when you click the car, a pie menu appears that has the travelling actions of the cellphone. Then the problem would be solved for those who crave cars. But I think those people have some unrealistic images of what Sims 4 can become, for example those who keep wishing they'll make it an open world soon. I'm not trying to be negative but it's never going to happen!

I personally think it's too late in the series to add cars. Sims 2 had them by the second expansion pack. Sims 3 had them in the base game. I think anyone who's been around a while just grew used to their sims having their own car, and thinks it's weird that they don't have them in this version of the game. It does feel off that they don't have them. I don't feel they need cars. Cars would be nice. I've heard them say there's no point since the world isn't open, but The Sims 2 was less open than The Sims 3 and that didn't stop them from adding cars in Nightlife (literally the second expansion pack). It would make sense that they would have added cars long before four years into the game, but they didn't, so I don't think there's a point in adding them. It would be a huge overhaul to add garages to lots that weren't designed for garages. Builders would enjoy the challenge, but players like myself who suck at building would find it a hassle.

@CheesySimsLover yeah I agree. If they decide to add cars in one way or another it's only going to give into the community's constant nagging about it. And that feels wrong, then they should add something else instead, something more game-enriching that we also have asked for. I guess that's what the creators know, and that's why we haven't got cars yet, lol.

I don't really care about cars either way, but I'm not opposed to the idea of a Stuff Pack that adds non-functional garage doors and object cars that offer an alternative way of reaching the travel screen. I really hope they don't sink resources into animating them or making them driveable, and adding more roads and stuff to the worlds. It'd just be such a waste in my opinion.

It's kind of interesting though; a lot of the things I'm seeing some of you say you'd rather have than cars (like a new vacation world or career, or a new skill) sound equally as unappealing to me as cars do. So I guess it just kind of goes to show we won't always understand why people want the things they do.

This is not going to help with your question, but I feel the same way about cars as I do about laundry: I have yet to understand the importance of adding mundane features to a game that is still missing so much in substance. I do like TS4, but I want things that add actual gameplay. Like useable beaches and ocean swimming, slow dancing and an attraction system, traits that actually have an impact on the personality and more careers with active components that have an impact on you Sims' environment.

@Netzspannung the should do something untraditional and add a personality trait pack. But that doesn't add up with their trend of dlc content, unfortunatly.

I agree with this; I love discovering new features and animations in the game that have been added. It's so much more meaningful than objects. The fact that laundry was added as a stuff pack in itself makes me roll my eyes. IDK how laundry is so appealing that people would want to buy a stuff pack dedicated to only laundry lol. In TS3 it was added as part of Ambitions, which I never actually used when I played the game actively. I mean... fgs... laundry?! I bought my first washer and dryer this year, and went through a phase where I was kinda in awe with being able to do laundry in my own home but, trust me, it gets old fast. I play sims to escape reality and the last thing I want is more chores for my sims to do.

I stopped playing The Sims 3 before I got to fully utilize the Island Paradise expansion pack (I think I installed it, but never properly played it). I revisited TS3 for a little while a couple weeks ago, and realized how much I love the usable beaches, boating, and skydiving. I want that in The Sims 4.
