Why Is the EA launcher now telling me that I need to subscribe to EA play to play a game I've already payed hundreds of dollars for? Nevermind. I selected the desktop Icon and it launched the game...

No, they are not. The EA app is just cruddy. It also affects more than just The Sims. Obviously if someone has already bought the game they don’t need to re-buy everything for the same platform.
