I'm writing an article for Sims Film Fest magazine about the loss in popularity of machinima with Sims 4. I would appreciate some quotes on why most of you don't watch machinima, over 40% of those who answered my poll said they don't watch. I'll credit you for your quote if I use it.I have 2 theories - for one, EA made some wonderful machiminas with Sims 3 and posted them on YouTube (some parodies - making fun of Charlie Sheen and Captain Kirk, and some very heartwarming). They stopped. I don't know why. They also don't promote machinima creators anymore. Do all the new players to Sims 4 just not know about machimima? It's still being produced by Sims 4 players but just not as widely popular anymore.The other theory is that maybe a younger generation is playing Sims 4 and would rather watch someone play than watch an actual 'story' evolve.I have no idea if either theory is correct but I would sure appreciate some input, especially from those who voted that they don't watch machinima.And if you have any ideas of what would bring you back to machimina or make you curious enough to try it, that would be great too!The Sims Film Fest has kicked off this year!! I used to love watching machinima during The Sims 3 times, but stopped watching those for The Sims 4. I tried to get into them, but nearly 90% of machinimas nowadays are about nerdy teen girls getting with the popular guy before getting impregnated and it's really irritating and tiresome. What would bring me back to machinima? Original storylines. I don't want to see the 10th teen girl in a row getting impregnated by some random guy at a party. I also don't want the 10th teen girl in a row getting bullied by popular girls because she's a nerd (while in reality, said popular girls are just jealous of her BeAuTY). That's boring and there's nothing original about that. I'm not saying that every single Sims 4 machinima is like this, but the vast majority of popular ones on YouTube are either about mental disorders or pregnancy, and it's just sad to see that people can't seem to come up with new ideas.That is, there are some good ones out there, they are just much harder to find than your generic high school story. But because they are so hard to find I stopped bothering about machinimas.

I agree with @Huiiie_07 ,most of the stories aren't original. I do like some creators like Hatsy but it's hard to find other machinima creators.

The machinima I used to watch in the Sims 3 were short stories with little to no words on-screen and put over a song or two. The whole story would be completed within the duration of the video. Think "Kokoro" or "Swim" from the Sims 3 machinima times. (User faalq was great for these! I used to watch other user's too.) "Bella Goth: The Last Hope" was the closest one I could find, but even that is part of a series (though I think it stands up well on it's own). The couple times I tried to look I'd get bombarded with these episode-types none of which had subject matter I was interested in with lots of words cluttering the screen. Mix that with the fact that the new machinima have such a bad reputation in the community. I keep hearing, "They're all unoriginal/bad"). So, I decided I didn't want to sort through them -even though honestly I probably haven't watched enough to come to that conclusion on my own. Now, I just avoid them altogether.I do watch the occasional Let's Play though! As long as the user is interesting (CallMeKevin or CaptainSauce :joy: )To get me back into machinima the more music-type machinima would have to be easier to find. The Sims used to host a spotlight channel where they featured quite of a few of the type I like. So, I'd have to find either a company-driven or fan-driven channel dedicated to sorting and spotlighting Sims 4 machinima perhaps?

I have never watched them as planned. I've seen a few but I really do not like scripted stories. I'v eseen the titles of some them and they all seem to have the same kinda storyline anyway. Like, an unpopular teen vs cheerleaders and some hot high school dude or some forgotten child sob sotry etc. where they all come back with a bang.They're just unimaginative and childishly vindictive. I don't like those stories in movies/whatever mostly american situations so I'm not gonna watch them in Sims format either.

Having said that, my favorite machinima artist (besides Remi of course) is a teen and has a very original series called 'Robin'. So not saying all teen machinima makers do the 'high school beautiful/nerdy/eventually pregnant' story. Would starting a new thread highlighting GOOD machinima be of interest to you? Just wondering.

I agree with @Huiiie_07 ,most of the stories aren't original. I do like some creators like Hatsy but it's hard to find other machinima creators.

Does it count if you only watch certain ones? I basically only watch Rémi Marocelli and I have run across some fun dance videos also while searching. I do think I ran across on maker for Sims 3 videos too.. told some creepy stories but I can't remember the name. I think I watched like 3 in a row.
Mostly I don't watch and am not interested because the few I try out aren't that good. If it doesn't pull at my heart strings or bring tears to my eyes through their selection of music and story... I give up on it.

Opps after a quick search Rémi Marocelli did the Sims 3 videos too.. doh!

I think so, as it could definitely be helpful in getting back into machinima, as others here seem to share my opinion on popular machinima and how it is unoriginal. So yes, I would like such a thread to be started.

I like it when I can find good ones like Simmer Jonny Simsville series but it stopped at 4, I'm still hoping that a 5th episode will come out.
I like Rémi Marocelli's stuff too, very well done.

It is hard to find stuff that isn't just about the nerd getting with the popular guy/girl, or samesame stuff about cheating on spouses. There is a whole lot of kinda the same thing over and over. Sure some is done better than the other but the storyline is the same.

I have no talent for making them myself so it isn't a criticism but The good stuff that I do find I'll rewatch due to the lack of choice
