MOD MANAGERS AND SIMILAR TOOLS
Many, many “mod managers” and other programs claiming to help you “fix” your Mods folder can actually cause problems.
For just a couple of many possible examples from current and previous versions of mod managers, no program should move a ts4script file without also moving all the package files that are part of that mod to keep all the pieces together. No mod manager should rename your mod/CC files.
Avoid new mod-management/testing tools. Be especially skeptical of new tools that aren’t created and supported by mod-support people and long-time modders. And before installing and using any mod-management/testing tool, back up your whole user folder (the folder your Mods folder is inside of) by making a copy of it.
In my Forums lists, I will only give you news about mod-management tools I personally consider relatively trustworthy and time-proven, but even those can miss issues and cause problems. I don’t report on mod managers that are known to have caused significant problems for users in the past or that have previously been designed in a way that they would obviously do that even if there aren't user reports. Anyone making a mod manager for a game should do so already knowing what the impact of their program could be on that game’s mods in particular, and that clearly hasn’t always been the case for Sims.
All mod managers are completely optional. You do NOT need one in order to use mods and CC. And no mod manager -- none! -- can fully replace knowing how to manage and test your own mods. You can and should learn how to do the basic folder and file management needed for this.
