Can't place objects in build mode and then can't get out of build mode Aug 2024

Yesterday all of a sudden the build mode stopped working. I couldn't place objects and then when I tried to leave build mode to go on with the game, the game stalled completely. How do I fix this?

@spinnekop1979 Do you have mods or CC in your Mods folder? If so, do a "vanilla" test to see if a mod/CC is your problem: Move (not copy) the Mods folder to the desktop (or rename it), delete the file called localthumbcache, open the game to test, and exit without saving.
