Eye Color Bug in CAS

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.98.127.1030
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? All except Journey to Batuu
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? By adding a sim in CAS, aging a sim, or using genetics
What happens when the bug occurs? Eye color changes to a non-existent color; not option to change swatches
What do you expect to see? Eyes should not morph or change color unless user-directed
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Neutral/Not Sure

I've attached an image showing an example.

I've only started picking the game back up as of a week ago, so not sure if a patch has damaged this. When I open up CAS, a normal sim is generated...totally fine, no bug. But if I add a sim, age a sim, or use genetics to create a sim, then the bug appears. If I add a sim from the gallery, it also appears with no issue unless I change their age. I also cannot change the sim's eye color if they're experiencing the bug. Meaning when I click on their eyes, only presets are shown, not an option to change eye color. As you can imagine, it's infuriating to go into CAS because of this.

At first, I thought it was because of my default eye replacement CC. I updated the CC to it's new form, and the bug continued. I read that it was possible that it was CC eyelashes too, so I did the same but it still persisted. I read that Llummia's eye shine was the culprit, but I've never downloaded that mod before so I knew it couldn't have been that.

I decided to just remove all of CC/mods and reopen my game. Again, the bug persisted without any CC.

I repaired the game multiple times. It still happens.

I've even encountered the eyes completely bulging out of the sim's face, but I can't recreate it (it seems random), otherwise I would've attached an image.

I've done everything I could find online short of uninstalling and re-installing, and nothing has worked.

I've been able to temporarily work around it by just downloading and editting a sim from the gallery, but that still renders genetics useless to me.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

  • @SIMpremacy After removing your mods/cc, you need to delete the localthumbcache.package file, you'll find it in Documents> Electronic Arts> The Sims 4. After that, try to repair your game again, and start a new game without mods. See if the problem is solved.
