How does the game know when it's updated (and thus it disables the mods)?

Like, is there a certain file it checks?

  • The game can't run without the EA App and checks in with it. This checks for game updates. Part of an update's code will usually include disabling mods (except for some very small patches).
  • I tested yesterday. I think the game checked GameVersion.txt in the documents folder. It contains a non-decoded character, followed by the game version. But seems like the version number does not matter - the game won't disable the mods. I was able to repeat the mod-disabling event by using the old GameVersion.txt. If I didn't lose that file, I could have repeated it once again.

If anyone hasn't updated their game, I'd appreciate it if you sent your GameVersion.txt from the older version.
