- If you have downloaded the .zip version of Sims 4 Studio instead of the Installer version then you need to extract the contents of the .zip to a folder, open the folder, and click the S4Studio.exe in order to run it. The Installer version will install Studio for you and then you can click the Studio icon to run it. Many people feel more familiar and comfortable with the Installer version and you can download that HERE.
Sims 4 Studio will not damage your files when merging them. Before Studio added the ability to merge .packages many people were using s4pe for merging .packages and s4pe has been reported to damage some files when it is used to merge .packages. This is probably what you're referring to. For some .packages, if s4pe is used to merge them, it will damage them to the point that when the merged.package is placed in the Sims 4/Mods folder the game will not start so I do not recommend using that tool for merging .packages.
There is a tutorial showing how to use Sims 4 Studio to merge .packages HERE.
Currently Studio is working on adding new functionality to its custom content management feature that will allow you to unmerge merged content and we're expecting that to be out in the next version :) - Oh, thanks!!
- By the way, I'm a mac user.
- Hi Restlessjukebox, to the best of my knowledge there is no Sims 4 custom content tool yet made that is designed to run on a Mac. Studio was coded, in part, on a Bootcamped Mac though so it can be run on a Mac that way. Other people have reported success running Studio on a Mac using Parallels and there is a discussion about that HERE.
- I see, thanks!!
If your game is slow too, you can get it to run faster by renaming your packages! All you have to do is remove the spaces and special characters!
eg. this is a file name_1.package > thisisafilename1.package
List of special characters: (for those who don’t know)
é ”, ; . : ~ ! > £ ’ < ^ # $ + % ½ & { / ) } € @ æ ß ü ğ ı ç ö ¨
Please spread the word!- @mrnhmath where did you find that? (Is it supposed to be a quote?)

In tumblr, i don't remember which, probably Lumialoversims. Yes, i saved this in my onenote- Oh wow! Thanks!
- Here is another thread on the topic: http://modthesims.info/t/546736 -- I figure it comes down to the OS in the end, and as far as I can see nobody has supplied that info, so YMMV.
By the way the only package I've seen so far that can cause issues when merging is the "novelist" package that's distributed with the Maxis CC guide -- this cannot be re-saved with s4pe, because it has a different compression format from everything else, but C+Ping the content into a new package works fine (so merging would only work one way: one can merge its content into another package, but not merge other stuff into that package) -- apart from that, I know of no actual evidence to those claims. Allegedly there are some other, very early CC packages that are using that type of compression (?), I don't know what they are, but if that's the case it comes down to the individual packages and is not a general issue.
