Want your good sim to stay good: Lock mischief skill
Want your sibling-rivalry-story to progress the way you want it: Only let the Golden one advance and lock skill gain after lvl 4 or 5 for the sibling.
Want your clumsy sim to be a lovable klutz at everything: Lock skills early
Want your amazing artsy sim who paints, plays and does everything oh so well still feel human: Lock singing and let him/her sing duets with their much more talented friends
It is just so freeing to have sims that can be different.
