My library can't display modded content, while gallery can

The same filter works normally in the Gallery, including modded content from other players, but it does not work in My Library for my own modded households.

I tested:

Current save - same problem
Very old save - same problem
Completely new game - same problem
Gallery with modded content enabled - works
My Library with modded content enabled - game hangs and eventually closes
Cleared Sims 4 caches
Cleared EA app cache
Restarted Windows
Installed the latest August 25, 2026 patch - problem remains

MCCC is current and functions normally in-game. However, during its startup scan of local household data, it reports an exception when attempting to import a .householdbinary file from the Sims 4 Tray/Library data:

PermissionError: [Errno 13] Permission denied

This happens at game startup, before I manually access My Library.

Because the problem occurs with a current save, an old save, and a completely new game, it does not appear to be save- or household-specific. The fact that modded content works normally in the Gallery but fails in My Library strongly suggests a problem with EA's handling/access of local modded household data in My Library.

Please investigate the My Library modded-content filter and its handling of local household .householdbinary files.

    Additional testing and reproduction results

I have now been able to reproduce this issue with all mods completely removed.

I first suspected that MCCC or another mod might be involved because MCCC was reporting an error while processing a .householdbinary file. I renamed the affected file, but the game simply generated a new .householdbinary, and MCCC produced the same error again. This indicated that the individual file was not the underlying problem.

I then performed a clean test:

    • Renamed my entire Mods folder so that no mods or custom content could load.
    • Cleared the usual Sims 4 cache files, including the localsimtexturecache.
    • Cleared both cache folders.
    • Cleared the EA App global cache.
    • Started the game again with no mods installed/loaded.
    • Tested the My Library filter using Include Custom Content.

The result was the same: the game freezes and then closes when “Include Custom Content” is selected in My Library.

The Gallery behaves differently: its equivalent Custom Content filter continues to work normally.

Therefore, the problem can be reproduced without MCCC, without any other mods, and after completely clearing the relevant caches. This rules out my installed mods as the cause of the crash.

The fact that the Gallery filter works while the identical type of filter in My Library causes the game to freeze and close appears to point specifically to the handling of locally stored content in My Library.

croc4854 Please try a fresh user folder by renaming The Sims 4 folder (the one Mods is inside of), plus a Game Repair.

    Thank you luthienrising
Problem solved: after testing with a fresh user folder and then restoring my original folder, I isolated an older .bin file in my Tray folder as the trigger. Renaming that file fixed the My Library crash, and MCCC no longer reports the householdbinary error.
