Tree override too dark [SOLVED]

I'm trying to replace some of the deco world object trees in Henford-on-Bagley with pines from the Outdoor retreat world but they end up way too dark and have a weird outline on the leaves like there is some kind of color overlay. Anyone have any ideas?

EDIT: ah, I always find the answer after posting. Was an issue with vertex paints and alphamaskthreshold.
