Herbalism not working?

So today, I decided to take my family on a camping trip, annoyingly I can't interact with the herbalism plants in season i.e I cannot discover them. I can take a cutting or I can remove the wild plant? thinking possibly it's a weird mash up with the Island exp? Anyone else had this issue?
