INCORRECT 'hardware does not support' message? TS4 NOT legacy edition

Hello! First time posting here so sorry if I've done anything wrong. I tried to contact EA help directly but that doesn't seem to be an option? I've also scrolled through the forums and found what I think are all the relevant posts and seem to have exhausted the resources I can find and understand!

I last played The Sims 4 on 7th February this year and it worked perfectly, since then I have NOT updated my game or my computer software or hardware (2013 iMac currently on OS Sonoma 14.7.1), and yet when I tried to launch my game today (the 11th) it gives me this error message:

Unable to start:

Hardware does not support running The Sims 4.

After researching the issue trying to troubleshoot I can't see why this would happen. From my understanding the hardware should support the game? It worked fine the other day and I haven't changed anything since then. I'm not very tech-savvy but from my research I have garnered that my Mac does run Metal, and it isn't the Legacy edition of TS4 that I have. Most posts related to this issue that I could find just directed the poster to the legacy edition thread!

I have tried restarting my computer (once normally and then once with the option, cmd, P + R reset (I've never done that before, I don't fully understand it), clearing my game caches and repairing my game within the EA app several times and nothing seems to have worked, I'm at a loss. :( I also do not have any mods or CC.

I'm not sure if it's relevant but since restarting my background hasn't reloaded and is just showing as a blank white screen? It was just on the generic one that the Sonoma OS provided. The screenshots and folders on my desktop are still appearing.

Please help as I really want to play my game and I don't understand why this is happening!

Thanks in advance,

fae 🧚✨
