Re: Game Data Incomplete, grey llamas, red and white sims, broken textures

@AriRod313

It could either be something in the Sims 4 folder such as corrupted saves, residual Mod issues, in-game settings, or it could be the drive you're using is just too slow. The cable isn't the only potential issue. If you are using an HDD rather than SSD/Flash it won't be fast enough. See this recent thread for further explanation - https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues-Mac/Time-freezing-and-crashing-in-build-mode/m-p/13222490#M58616

Rename the Sims 4 folder in the Documents > Electronic Arts folder and load a new clean game, this will discount a user data issue if it still happens.

    It might be the drive issue. I can’t find info that says if it’s a HDD or SDD for sure which online says it’s probably HDD then. I renamed the sims 4 folder and loaded a new game and I’m still having the same issue I was having last night after I wrote this post and was trying to figure things out myself more. Basically if I take out my mods/sims 4 folder overall and open a new game my packs are like there but also missing. Like in CAS right now I have the thumbnails for clothes that’s in one of my packs, but the thumbnails look empty/are missing the image and if I click on the clothes it goes the red/white/black missing glitches (attached photo below). The same was happening when I could open my normal saves without mods, except it would also be whole parts of worlds partially missing (last photo you can see the floor of the apartment is like see through and you can see onto the street below). It seems like anything that’s not base game is only installed/showing up partially for some reason, relight the base game functions/CAS and build items seem fine. Is this an issue with the drive type/speed or are my packs for some reason just not installing right?

    Ah ok, thanks for more info. I've merged into this ongoing thread. Your installation is corrupted. All your Packs are in the Sims 4 Packs folder which should be in the same location as your base game, on the external drive. You could try repairing the game although I doubt that will do anything. You could trash that whole Sims 4 Packs folder and then re-download them through Origin. But if your drive isn't fast enough you're still going to encounter the same issue. You should ALWAYS make sure the drive is full mounted and the OS has loaded the contents before opening Origin by opening the drive in Finder and navigating to deep subfolders.

    Hi thank you for the help! I believe all my packs are in the same place in my external I attached some photos. Right now they’re just in the main drive along with other folders of storage, should I put them within their own folder all together? I had done that originally and it was having the same issue so I had uninstalled and reinstalled just directly onto the drive.
    Also, I’m sorry but I don’t really understand computers past sims or photoshop things so I don’t fully understand what you mean by the last thing. Can you please explain? The part that says: “make sure the drive is full mounted and the OS has loaded the contents before opening Origin by opening the drive in Finder and navigating to deep subfolders”

    So long as the Sims 4 Packs folder and the base game are in the same location, and that location is showing in Origin > Installs & Saves > Game library location, everything should load correctly. You need to trash that Sims 4 Packs folder, empty the trash, unplug the drive, restart your Mac, plug in the drive and then open Origin and re-download the packs. The bit about navigating to the folders means that you double click on the drive to open in Finder then keep opening subfolders so the OS is properly loading the contents of the drive. Once you have done that you can then launch Origin and it should load all the data from the drive.

    Again thank you so much for your help! And okay, so I followed all your instructions and the problem persists. I’ve uninstalled and repaired a bunch of times over the course of the last few days, tried completely clean games with new Sims 4 folders, and it all just brings me back to the same issue with the missing/corrupted packs. It seems like the conclusion is that my drive isn’t fast enough, right? I need an SDD drive?

    Okay thank you! I’m uninstalling origin from the instructions and I’m missing three files/folders that are listed, is that okay that they’re not showing up for me to take out? I made a yellow blob thing next to the things missing, I found all the rest. I do have a com.ea.max.thesims4.saved.State folder in my first library, does that stay?

    If they’re not there it’s fine. Could you post a screenshot of the file you do have, the one you mention?

    Oh that must be a new file that's appeared in the last few weeks, since I last checked. Thanks for flagging it, I've updated my guide 🙂 Yes, you can trash it.

    Okay I did all the things and the exact same issue prevails. I’m calling it, I need a better external drive. Thank you so so so much for all this help, I’ve been trying to troubleshoot this myself through your guide and other answered similar questions since Wednesday evening before finally hopping on here last night. One last thing, I saw in the thread you linked at the start you recommended the Samsung T7? This is the one I’m planning on getting (attached below), this looks right? I want to make sure if I’m about to drop money things will hopefully (*fingers crossed*) work
