Sims 4 ed35e0ea:29f00e76:00000000:18a1dd51

I have just updated my computer to macOS Monterey but when it was finished I tried opening Sims 4 and I got an error message:

Unable to start:

The Sims 4 is already running.

[ed35e0ea:29f00e76:00000000:18a1dd51]

I searched for solutions online and found a thread from a few years ago that said to locate a file called UserData.lock and delete it, which I did, and now I can open the game but all my saves are gone. All the data files are still in the saves folder (as well as my mods) but I can't actually play them.

Any ideas?

First, let's check the location of your Sims 4 folder(s). Please open Terminal and copy and paste the following command then hit Enter/Return:

find ~ -type d -name "*The Sims 4*" 2>/dev/null

After a little while it will return the results of the search. Please copy and paste the results in a post here.

Normally I access my saves, mods, etc at [Users/jossi/Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4], if that helps at all.

I did the same thing but now my Sims 4 game is glitch. It would take forever to load and when I'm finally in game, I go to build mode and go back to live mode and I can't control any of my Sims. All of the buttons to toggle between Sims are missing!!!!!

Yep, the results aren't showing any of your user data. Try this, it will search all user accounts and externals:

find / -type d -name "*The Sims 4*" 2>/dev/null

Thanks. Have you launched the game between the first Terminal search and the second? There is now an Electronics Arts > The Sims 4 folder in your Documents folder. Apart from that, there is no other Sims 4 folder containing your saves etc. on your Mac.

When you say you can't play the saves, maybe they have filenames which the game can't load? Could you attach a screenshot of the contents of your saves folder?

@Bluebellflora I've just opened the game and now everything's back to normal, thanks for the help. I'm still a little bewildered though because I never moved the folder... but the terminal search fixed whatever was going on, so thanks 🙂

Great! The Terminal search wouldn't have fixed anything, just coincidence 🙂 It's literally just a search, it doesn't do anything.
