Sims 4 no longer working on Mac
For the past 2 weeks or so, my Sims will not work.. even on a clean vanilla game.
Specs:
MacBook Air M1, 2020
Chip: Apple M1
Memory: 8 GB
Startup disk: Macintosh HD
MacOS: Sequoia 15.2
Display: Built-In Retina Display 13.3 inch (2560 x 1600)
My Sims 4 started with the usual broken mods/cc issue. I removed every broken mod I could find. I used Twisted Mexi's Better Exceptions for help. I slowly added everything back into my Mods folder and tested every single thing. Everything would run smoothly and nothing was broken. Soon, some of the mods/cc that were not broken, would end up breaking anywhere from 5 minutes to overnight. Something that would work at 12 pm might say it was broken at 1 pm (for example). I ran numerous Better Exceptions reports and have pulled out everything from the Mods folder until I thought I would lose my mind. I got to the point where I even deleted every single mod and cc to restart because I thought maybe starting fresh and making sure all mods/cc were up to date would solve the issue. Nothing worked. I made sure my MacBook Air was up to date. Eventually, someone gave me a link on how to factory reset the game. I did that, and it still had the same issues. I even ran the game as a clean vanilla game and it would freeze up and crash in CAS. My game is up to date, I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, and even tried to repair the game. I also have deleted the localthumbnailcache file every time I removed something broken. Nothing has worked.
Here are my main game issues:
- Game loading forever in Gallery.
- Game randomly crashing.
- Game not working even though all cc/mods have been checked and are up to date.
- Game not showing mods/cc/script files in game. (The main one for me is that Better Exceptions by Twisted Mexi no longer shows up in game even though it isn't broken and is up to date. I have all custom content turned on in game.)
- Game not working on a clean vanilla game with no mods/cc. (Even after game has been factory reset, uninstalled, reinstalled, wiped clean, repaired, etc.) It will either not open and say "not responding" or freeze up and crash.
- Game stays on loading screen forever.
- Issue where I open game and go to a different app for a second, and then the game will no longer let me back in. I end up having to force quit.
