Aging and Child Traits

So, some time ago, one of my Sims had their first baby. This baby stayed in the cradle for a while and I got a message saying it was his birthday, but nothing happened. Later, I came back from playing another household and found the boy grown up and with a random trait (or, at least, one I didn't choose). After his brother was born, however, I got the message for his birthday and waited a couple days, but then aged him up manually. When I did that, I had to choose a trait myself.

I have a couple questions for this.

First, do babies age up on their own, or is it always necessary to age them manually or go to another household? On this note, I recently played another house and came back to one with two babies past their birthdays, and they remained babies.

Secondly, is there a way to choose whether the child's traits will be random or hand-picked by you? In some cases, I like having the control to pick and choose traits, but other times I like the surprise. Is there anything like in Sim Medieval, where child traits were random, but appeared (to me, at least) to be influenced by the traits of the parents?

Finally, if there is a way to get random traits, do previous relationships or experiences have anything to do with them, or is it pure chance?

Thanks for the help! (:

  • Hi @alba_gu_brath0,

    I have a couple answers 😉

1.- Yes, as long as you have aging on in the game settings, babies will age up on their own. It may take a while from the moment when you get the notification, depending on how long the life of the sims is set in the game settings.

2.- You only get to choose the sim's traits if you are controlling that family when the sim grows. And if you are controlling the family, there is not an option to choose a random trait inside the game.

I think that should answer everything, let me know if I forgot something 🙂

@Phantomlover1717 No, I don't use any mods. I downloaded some houses from the Gallery recently, but I'm pretty sure that was well after the two boys grew up. I can try removing it anyway to see if that helps with the two who are about to grow up. (I'm thinking about manually aging one and trying to get the other to age naturally to see if it makes a difference.) How would you do that?
