Can't move my Sims 4 DLCs out of Origin (to Steam)
Since the news of Origin's end started I've been meaning to eventually move to Steam. This was also affected by my move to the Linux Operative System, which meant the start of my issues with emulators like Lutris and Bottles. This week I decided to make my move official, since Steam does enable you to play Windows games on Linux "out of the box".
Well, what I play the most is The Sims 4. Which you already know has a lot of DLCs and almost none is cheap.
On Steam, the base game was free. Cool. I was prepared to write my game's CD key from the Origin library, but that meant less work overall which was fine. I headed to find the CD key for the first expansion pack and... it wasn't there. There was no description for my copy of the game and nobody online could help me.
I eventually found someone addressing a very similar issue but about the Sims 3 (here's the post in question), where they adviced to contact support and ask for the keys. You can find how well that conversation went in the attachment.
Now, I wasn't about to give up yet. Someone online talked about a workaround to make Steam automatically detect all your DLCs! No writing each key one by one! Hurray!
Well, tough luck. This tutorial didn't work either. A pretty recent tutorial, by the way!
So. We called. And they told us the same bullshitty answer they gave me on-chat: "this issue affects a lot of other players and we're working on it". When are we expected to get solutions? Ah, you shouldn't have come to the EA Help Center for solutions! We only got a script here, and if your problem isn't addressed in the script... Well, I guess your games are dying with Origin.
Honestly, I know it feels like I'm only venting here, but I'd really like to know if it's true what these two people said and this is a common problem. Because, as I told them once: this looks like a feature, not a bug.
@Dan_Urios What I meant was this:
- Uninstall the Origin version
- Install the base game from Steam
- Install any packs your Steam account owns through Steam
- Login to Origin and download any packs you own through Origin, but not the base game
As I said before, this is the way a mixed install has worked since Sims 4 first came to Steam. However, if this isn't working for you, please let me know exactly what you see when you try to install your Origin-owned packs through Origin.
