I can not open my sims 4 application after updating the base game. It keeps saying Initialization error at startup. I've tried repairing the game through EA and I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the EA app but nothing works. What should I do? I am tempted to uninstall and reinstall the sims 4 app instead but I am scared that I'll lose the current sim that I'm playing. Can anyone help?

@mereloi This error is typically related to an overly active antivirus. So please set exceptions in yours for TS4_x64, TS4_DX9_x64, and TS4_Launcher_x64; or the entire Bin folder they're in. Set an exception for EADesktop.exe as well.
You may need to repair the game afterwards, but uninstalling isn't usually necessary. If you do uninstall, back up the Sims 4 folder in Documents > Electronic Arts, which holds your saves and other user data. This folder shouldn't be deleted during the uninstall process, but it's always best to keep backups.

Can I put the backup folder in my desktop? Then what am I gonna do after I install again? Wouldn’t there be a new sims 4 folder? I’m so sorry for asking a lot of questions.

@mereloi Please ignore the other thread, which was for a user with a different error and probably very different hardware than you have. (And I wrote the original reply, so I would know.) Just set the exceptions I listed in post 2.

Do you happen to have windows 7 ? I have this problem too and I saw this post from another windows 7 user on a different forum (the op said it worked for them but I haven't tested if it works myself).

I just checked and I have windows 11. I don’t know if that solution will work for me ☹️
