Just replying to myself, I fixed the issue! I guess it was a me being a tech idiot issue. 

I went to my Nvidia control panel and changed my preferred graphics processor to "High-performance NVIDIA processor", restarted my laptop and now my game is on DX11.

@espeon9466thank you so much. I looked for the option you mentioned and that updated my game to default DX11. Now I can see if this will indeed make a difference.
