duplicate (?) files in my sims 4 folder

im not entirely sure if this is the correct category for this to be posted, but just a quick question about the files i can see in my sims 4 folder. everything is normal, i have all the things i need in there however i have a bunch of files (that i already have) that are named with "DESKTOP" at the end. these include: reticulatedsplinesview, notify.glob, avatarcache, localthumbcache, options, and user settings.

they were all last modified in 2023, and obviously don't seem to be serving any purpose if i have newer files in my folder all under the same names as stated above. i was just wondering what are these files, why do they exist, should they be in my folder, and can i delete them if necessary? even after i've repaired the game a few times in the past, they're still there.

thank you in advance! 🩷

  • notphosie  These files with DESKTOP at the end are probably the result of OneDrive syncing your Sims 4 data.  The OS won't allow two files with the same name in the same location, so OneDrive will add the computer name or something similar to the end of some files as necessary.

The files that get the extra characters in their names are supposed to be the older versions.  And the game can't use them with the modified names.  So if you're sure you're not missing any content, you can delete these files.  I would set aside anything in the saves folder though, just in case you realize later that you actually wanted an old save.

If you'd like to keep OneDrive from touching your Sims 4 data, please see the relevant section, whichever option you prefer, of the first post of this thread:
