Game keeps crashing and no Life or Death items

Hey, I am desperate for a fix. I just bought Life and Death earlier, everything seemed normal when installing it on my laptop. When I tried to load into the sims it crashed when I would select a household and try to play with them on the lots. Build mode works fine, but when picking a sim it always crashes. Also my game shows no items from Life and death at all even though I bought it and installed it, and when I started up the game it showed me that I downloaded it with the little info card, but in game no items or anything. I don't have any cc right now, no mods, all my drivers are up to date as well as my laptop. I do not know what else to try

  • Frost_Silverbloo  The game's install location is this by default in a Steam install:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Sims 4

Open that Sims 4 folder and delete the EP17 folder inside.  Make sure Steam is closed as well as the EA App and the EABackgroundService.

For the game crashes, your dxdiag shows you're running Sims 4 in DirectX 9 mode.  Please switch to DX11 mode and see whether it works better.

Your dxdiag does list a few serious crashes of the graphics driver, or one of them at least.  So the next step is to do a clean uninstall and reinstall of both drivers, as described here:

Use the drivers Asus provides for your laptop.  They're a bit old but are probably still fine, and it's simple enough to update if necessary.  Go here:

    https://rog.asus.com/laptops/rog-zephyrus/rog-zephyrus-m16-2023-series/helpdesk_download/

Choose your exact model (GU604VI) if asked, expand the Graphics section, and download the newest Nvidia and Intel drivers, from May and July 2023, respectively.  Download them before starting the uninstall process so you can keep your computer offline the entire time.

Hi. So I was having the same issue, and I went into my EA App on my pc and went into settings and went to downloads and next to my sims 4 game download I clicked on “repair game” and it fixed completely. My games running normal with no issues and I’ve been playing since for a few hours. I hope this helps.

So I did what you said and deleted the EP17 file off my computer and put it back in DirectX 11 mode and now it lets me load into the game and life and death is working.
Thank you so much for all the help!!!

  • Frost_Silverbloo  Try reinstalling L&D.  Make sure the EA App is closed and the EABackgroundService is NOT running in the Task Manager.  Open [install location]\The Sims 4, and delete the EP17 folder directly inside.  Then open the EA App and download the pack again.

For the crashing, please test a new save, for comparison's sake.  If you get another crash, please provide a dxdiag.  Hit Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.
