Game not saving progress all of a sudden after closing and reopening

so this is getting really out of hand with issues since coming back from my hiatus, I took a break from Sept 2025 until March 2026 and have now endured 2 updates and with those have been so many issues that I can barely play the game I have invested so much money into already. The newest one started yesterday where when I opened the game, to my surprise I wasn't where I left off the night before, I was actually at a point somewhere from the past and all progress had been lost up til then. Assuming ai forgot to save and just closed the game because it was 3am the night before and my husband was finished his own gaming and ready for bed also so I proceeded to redo my things that had been undone. I saved, closed, reopened (to test) and nope, back to the past again.. I then inquired to my IT hubby and we began our diagnosing journey.. I started with an EA repair on my game and at first it had an error when repairing 4 of the DLC packs so we had to manually remove them in my C: drive and then install them through EA individually again after 2 hours of fighting with the system and stop erroring out. We tested my saves off and on throughout and still same issue. So then we started going through my save files (backed them up) and removing them to test them one by one to see if any were corrupt and they all took me to the past time point. So now we decided to start a new save in the game, took my sims that I always back up to the gallery at the end of each night (thank you Jesus), placed them in an apartment in a world and tested that one last night before bed and then again before typing this, so far that is the one that doesn't reset. I can only assume that with the updates, it caused issues with our saves? Again I am just assuming, I've never had this happen before and I have personally been playing TS off and on since 2000 so I think like MANY others, we know a thing or two about the mechanics of this game. anyway, rant over, I'm out. stay blessed y'all <3

Thank you for your reply, As for the new save, that is golden and nothing has reverted back as of YET! As for the old save that I mentioned in the OG post, everything reverts back to the past that I used as for my family and lot bc I was still building on an empty world at this point, sorry I should have specified that before (all saves in the lineup were affected by whatever this was). The modified dates reflect the time stamp of when the files saved and didn't automatically adjust.

  • KimieM80  Sorry, I just want to make sure I understand:  The timestamps reflect the last time your progress was saved, or the most recent time you tried to save but it didn't work?  The reason I ask is that these are very different issues.  The first means the save is probably corrupt, although there are a couple other possible explanations; the second means either the save process is breaking or the newer file is being replaced by an older one.

Every attempt to save has reacted normally during the saving process. The timestamp reflects the time that the save was performed regardless of it going back in time or not (if that makes sense). I had to make a back up copy of my saves once I found the issue happening. The new save continues to save normally, I just checked it and it is where I left off from 3 days ago when this issues started (I haven't played since this happened while I try to find out why it happened). All of the old save files continue to revert back to one specific time in the past. I hope this better explains things

  • KimieM80  That does explain it, thanks.  I just wanted to make sure this wasn't a case of OneDrive or some other syncing service replacing your new saves with older ones.

It's definitely possible that the affected saves are corrupt, and in fact that would be my guess.  However, one thing you can try is loading the save in a new admin Windows account.  The temp files from an unzipped save are stored in a hidden folder that's unique to a given account, and we've seen a few issues with this folder recently, although the problem is usually with all saves.  Still, it wouldn't hurt to test.

Create a new, local, admin Windows account, load the game once in that account, quit, and add your save to the user folder there.  (You can drop files in C:\Users\Public to be able to access them from any account.)  If you can save your progress, great, try the newly-saved file in your old account.

If the save still doesn't work, go here:

    C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\Temp\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4

While the game is open, you should see a scratch folder inside the Sims 4 folder, and a scratch_[numbers] folder inside that, containing a large number of files from whatever save is loaded.  Sort the folder by file size and let me know how many files are essentially zeroed out: 1 kb or less.  This is one clear symptom of a corrupted save, and it would explain why the changes you make don't stick.

I'm so sorry I thought I responded already, I'm glad I came back to check! I did the admin windows as you suggested and checked the save and still all 5 saves revert back to the old point so my husband and I think it's a corrupt save as well. The new save is exactly where I leave it each time. I think what I will do is just scrap everything, save all of my lots and sims to the gallery, uninstall sims and start fresh so that any bugs that may attach to other saves don't stand a chance. I've had sick saves before but this one's a first. I really appreciate your help and dedication to finding out what happened here. You're e gem :-) Have a blessed rest of your week

  • KimieM80  I think you're right that your saves are corrupt, but I would be careful transferring data from them to a new save.  Just test everything first, before you spend any other time building the new save, so you find out about any potential problems right away.  We've seen cases where a broken lot can break a new save too, even one with no real progress other than placing a few builds.
