HELP! My sims game won't start and the icon has turned red?

So I just pre-downloaded the new expansion and all of a sudden my game icon when loaded is red with a black box, it looks corrupted. It also will not load or even show up whatsoever. When I click on it, all that will come up is "sims 4" on the top bar and then it will come up the "the sims 4 is not responding". i have tried to clear space on my laptop and it hasn't worked! What is wrong?  I attached a picture of what the icon looks like now!
