@tntterry  Other than the Sims Delivery drops, Sims 4 updates don't change anything critical in the user folder.  If you're thinking of the "mods disabled" message, that happens when the gameversion.txt file shows an older version than what is currently running, for example it says 1.97.etc. before you launched the game but the current patch level is 1.98.  Copying over a new version of this file, or editing an older version, would circumvent this problem.

I think though that you'll have better success swapping out the saves folders and leaving everything else intact.  Maybe you want to swap Tray folders too, or even the Mods folders if your various saves use very different mods and custom content.  Regardless, it seems like it might be faster to just move around these subfolders rather than having multiple copies of the Sims 4 user folder and trying to make sure they all have every Tray item and whatever else you want them to share.

Finally, having a lot of saves in the saves folder doesn't add to lag.  Only one save can be loaded at a time; the others just sit there.  The only effect the extra saves might have is making loading to the Main Menu take a little longer, since the game needs to load all those thumbnails and other basic data, but that shouldn't make a noticeable difference unless you have lots of saves and a low-end computer.
