python37_x64.dll errors.

My game will not stop crashing. Sometimes it's 5 minutes in, sometimes it's 20 minutes in, but it will always crash. Here is what I have tried:

  • Uninstalling and Re-installing TS4
  • Deleting the Sims 4 folder and generating a new one more times than I can count.
  • Adding my GPU (Nvidia 4090) to the GraphicsCards.sgr and placing it in the ConfigOverride folder.
  • Checking and re-installing my GPU drivers.
  • Running the Memory Diagnostic Tool with normal results.
  • Playing the game in DX9 vs DX11.
  • Run the System File Checker with normal results.
  • Turning off Antivirus and Firewall.

I am not playing with any mods or CC, I am just trying to get the game to run without crashing. I check the Event Log after every crash and it will almost always point to python37_x64.dll as being the faulty module. I have no idea how to solve this other than what I have tried above. This is exactly what it says in the Event Viewer:

I was not having any issues with my game before the most recent updates aside from needing to manually add my GPU. This is also the only program on my computer that does this. All other games and applications have no issues with stability aside from TS4. Is there any way to get some help? I have attached my Dxdiag to this post . Thanks.

@puzzlezaddict, thanks for all the suggestions. I did try a Clean Boot but that didn't work. I DID go back into the BIOS, though, to double-check on the overclocking situation. I'd gone and looked at it last week and all the OC stuff seemed to be disabled (which is how I like it) but I found a sneaky "Turbo Boost" setting for my CPU that I disabled and, so far so good?

I am super hesitant and nervous to say that I've found the solution but I have had the game running for a few Sim days now with no crashing where before I couldn't even do one full day in-game. Going to try to stress it out a bit with some travel and clicking around but I can tentatively say that the Turbo Boost on the CPU seems to be the issue. I'll check back in this thread if I turn out to be wrong! Thanks again for your help with this.

Hello, I have the same problem, I get the same error, have you solved it? I'm a little afraid to enter the BIOS and disable the Turbo Boost, did you do well with that? I really do not want to deconfigure my entire PC....

  • Marilu_8  If you'd like a second opinion before jumping into BIOS settings, feel free to post a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

Having said that, changing this particular BIOS setting won't damage your PC.

  • I know this thread is starting to get old, but it is a godsend. Spent an entire weekend, deleting mods, reinstalling apps, wiping drivers, and the marked solution here fixed it but I did it through power management, rather than entering BIOS.

In power management, setting my max performance to 99% alone didn't work for me, but following all the tricks https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWBVtXPfTB0 (The aim of the video is originally for overheating, but this got my Sims 4 running again, too) then restarting my PC finally fixed the issue. I didn't need to touch BIOS at all. (You can use regedit to add the option to toggle boost to power management.)

    Thank you!

Really wanted to comment on this, in case anyone with similar specs to mine has this problem in the future

Like OP, I tried every possible solution before finding this page

    Specs:

    GPU: RTX 4080

    CPU: 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-13900KF   3.00 GHz (Same as Marilu)

Worth noting that it gives a noticeable performance hit in other games, so I have to switch back when I want to play and more modern game at max settings, but being able to effectively toggle between 'Sims mode' and 'everything else' mode is really easy.

  • harleyman12345  More information about this issue is always appreciated.  It's not surprising these settings would impact other games, but if they're this simple (relatively, once you know what you're doing) to implement, hopefully this isn't too much of a burden for you.

The thing is, your processor might be slightly damaged or slightly defective, and Sims 4 brings out the symptoms more than other games, and changing these power settings brings the CPU back to within its safe limits.  So you might want to run a few CPU stress tests to see whether you get another crash.  And they should be different types of tests.  For example, I've seen reports that a CPU would be fine running some Prime95 tests but completely crash on others.

The point is that if you do have a CPU with a small problem, it could be stable for a while, maybe long enough for you to eventually replace the system; or it could continue to degrade over time.  And if you're in the latter category, you'd want to know before Intel's extended warranty for these chips runs out.  I believe they extended it to three years for this class of CPU given all the instability issues that came to light around 15 months ago.

Oooo thanks for this. This is good to know. I will run some stress tests when I next have the opportunity!

I am going to be doing some upgrades next year, and was leaning towards upgrading my GPU first, but if this is the case, and the stress tests show, I'll prioritize my CPU, and motherboard if need be.

Thanks a lot for this, very helpful!
