Re: [ARCHIVED] Questions regarding drop of 32 bit OS Support/Legacy Edition

My Operating System is already running 64 bit so I dont understand why Origin told me I had to download and install the Sims 4 Legacy Edition and the game would NOT run until I did. And now that I did that I cant get rid of it or play without it and just learned that with this Legacy Edition I can NEVER buy another Sims 4 expansion or other pack OR get ANY future updates. PLEASE tell me there is a fix coming for this as I was hoping to get the new Discover University expansion. ☹️ HELP!!! I have a barely 2 years old laptop with Windows 10 and a 64 bit operating system.

Go to the Origin/My games Library - right-click on TS4 and select properties or game data. (My version of Origin is not in English so I don't know what the equivalent of this term is for you)
Then select advanced startup options. Change from 32 bit to 64 bit there

    Edited:

    Forgot to add.
The first time launch the game from Origin - not from the desktop icon

Uninstall Legacy Edition and do as above

    I don't work for EA

@lkrause74 I'm having this same problem. I have a 64bit computer but when I try to run the game it tells me to install the legacy edition. I tried checking the advanced startup options but it does not show an option to change which it runs on.
  • I'm curious about something in regards to households and lots since this update came through:

You created new households and lots in either legacy or standard versions or both, can you move those households and lots across to these various versions of TS4?

If so - can you provide a step by step guide to add to your FAQ as to how to go about doing that?

(It could be helpful if you are locked to a 32bit system and plan on an upgrade to 64 bit system and don't want to lose the effort you put into it when you do upgrade and start getting the DLC packs to unlock those households.)

Also those who enjoy having limited or no internet might want to transfer those households and lots across the standard to the legacy version and have it all in one place, either as a back up or a place to test out all their experiementations with CC while keeping the standard version clean, and since the legacy version won't get updates, it would be perfect for all those mods and having such copies of households and lots put there.

@Hoverael Once you upgrade to 64 bit, you can just move your files back to the Sims 4 folder in documents and it should all be there. Going from 64 bit to 32 bit isn't possible. Once a saved was loaded on 64 bit, you can't go back.

That part should be in the official FAQ I have linked above.

It is probably possible to just save your households to to library with legacy and then move to the tray folder on 64 bit. Shouldn't be different then when you do that from standard to standard.

The only difference is that you don't have the gallery to help you on legacy.

For some reason my options menu does not have the "When launching this game" field. It only shows language and command line arguments. I have attached the DxDiag file.

  • I am in exactly the same boat, spoke to an EA consultant on live chat today supposedly they need to fix something and that its happening to lots of people please let me know if you find a way to solve this issue! fingers crossed we hear something soon.

@phantom_dragon16 Did you download the legacy edition ? You should be able to launch the normal one.

If you start the game, what does it say in your task manager ? Sims 4 legacy or Sims 4 64 bit ?

@shreeree08 Do you also have no option to switch back as shown in the FAQ post ?
  • No i have the option to switch and no matter which option I put the computer on sims wont launch, It also made me download the legacy edition despite having a 64bit  and gives me an error code when I  go to launch the game.

  • yes I am on a PC and the error i'm receiving is

    "TS4-X64.exe-Application error"

"The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000007b) "

@shreeree08 I think it's best if you made your own thread for this. Easier to troubleshoot.

Could you include as much details as possible and and post your DxDiag as well as a screenshot of the error message (sounds like a windows one and not a game one )

Task manager is saying it's the legacy edition, which is weird as I did not download it. It seems it must have been auto downloaded when I did the update? But when I try to open the game it tells me that I am missing files and need to download the legacy edition. I just download the legacy edition to see if that will give me the option to change it to 64bit but the option is still not showing up in advanced launch options.

I am now able to open and run the game as legacy edition, but I'm not seeing anyway to run the 64bit version.

Update: I have now gotten it to work. For anyone with a similar problem, trying using the repair option in the setting menu. Since doing that the option field for "When launching this game" has now appeared and I am able to run the 64bit version.
