I confirm that turning off edge smoothing, starting the game and then, turning it back on solved the issue.
Regarding my experience, it's completely positive so far.
- crinrict2 years agoHero+@Marquillotuca89 Is it fine the second time you start the game or do you have to turn it off at the end of your game session ?
- rjssim2 years agoSeasoned Ace
@crinrict You have to turn it off at the end of a game session, or TS4 won't launch.
- crinrict2 years agoHero+@rjssim Thanks.
I wonder why it doesn't work for some. I have no issues with it on.
What graphics card do you have ? - rjssim2 years agoSeasoned Ace
@crinrict No problem. My system has a RTX 3070.
- crinrict2 years agoHero+@rjssim I have a RTX 3080 .. shouldn't be that much of a difference. I assume you have updated drivers ?
Do you have any files in your configoverride folder ? - rjssim2 years agoSeasoned Ace
@crinrict Now that you mentioned it, I checked, and I did! I had a modded GraphicsRules.sgr in there. I removed it, and now it launches DirectX 11 with edge smoothing on! LOL! Now, I just have to mod the new GraphicsRules.sgr because that made the game look a lot better.

Wonder if its the same for the others. Thanks for checking

@rjssimthat may be the case, I also use a custom GraphicsRules file so I'll try without it in my game folder
Edit: That made a difference, Thanks!

@crinrict One thing I noticed after removing the modded GraphicsRules.sgr is that performance benefits are gone. The adjustments in the file were more graphically demanding and increased things, yet with DirectX 11, the performance was crisp and smooth vs the lower settings default GraphicsRules.sgr which is now not getting the same performance despite the settings being less.

I tried enabling edge smoothing with DX11, and the game won’t launch. It only does when it’s off.
- crinrict2 years agoHero+
@rjssim Did you try redoing the changes on the current file ?
@BrandonIsWhoIAm Do you have any files in the ConfigOverride folder ? You need to redo those with the current game files.
@ashleyrosey05 Please remove your mods and test without them.

Hi with the directx 11 my game options on launch is so small I can't read it. also it doesn't allow me to go back to window while the game is open
- crinrict2 years agoHero+@abelhinha35 Could you please provide the info asked in the first post. Thank you.

@crinrict I did edit the new file to match the modded one, but there is a specific setting that needs to be changed that doesn't work with DirectX 11. It causes an error where you cannot get the interaction menus to popup such as sim interactions or making the sims move by clicking on a spot, and when I don't edit the setting and make the changes to all of the other settings, the game gets extremely laggy and stuttery under DirectX 11.
EDIT: No matter how well DirectX 11 will be tuned, I would also like to strongly recommend not forcing it and always leaving an option to go back to DirectX 9 for those who have graphic cards that don't support DirectX 11. That could be extremely problematic.
EDIT 2: In regards to the setting in the GraphicsRules.sgr (this setting is now in the Ts4CommonRules.sgr file) file, this setting needs to be at 1 to get a smooth experience with the quality improvements in the modded file:
setProp $ConfigGroup RenderPickFuzzinessRadius 1
In DirectX 11, this has to be at 0 which is by default, or else you can't click on a spot to move sims, and no interaction menus will popup when you click on a sim. In DirectX 9, this doesn't happen. Maybe the DEVs can take a look at why setting this to 1 is not working in DirectX 11 but works in DirectX 9.
When using the modded file with DirectX 11 with the edits and setProp $ConfigGroup RenderPickFuzzinessRadius set to 1, the performance is better than with the default GraphicsRules.sgr file, the panning is super smooth and the edge smoothing glitch I was having since the beginning of TS4 is gone. The FPS is lower still lower in DirectX 11 than it is in DirectX 9, but still the experience seems smoother. Also, the graphics quality is much better than the default very high settings. There is more distance, larger shadow textures, etc.
@rjssimSTRONG agree. I hope they will consider making it an option to switch between either DX9 or DX11 because forcing on DX11 for all will be probably problematic in the long run.
Besides, would be nice to have a choice to either switch between one and the other.- Marquillotuca892 years agoSeasoned Veteran
Is it fine the second time you start the game or do you have to turn it off at the end of your game session ?
Sorry for replying back until now, I can play again with Edge Smoothing On, I don't need to disable it at the end of my session. - crinrict2 years agoHero+@Marquillotuca89 do you have an edited graphicsRules file in ConfigOverride folder ? If so, that's the cause for the issue. You need to remove it.

Agreed.. i don't like the new TS4_DX9_x64 launcher
