Re: update Sims4: Origin installs legacy edition

Hi @Gwenna1981 - I moved your post to the The Sims 4 technical help section.

You shouldn't have to uninstall / reinstall if your computer has been running the 64-bit version all along. You can change which version it opens from the Origin properties screen. Make sure you're logged out of TS4, then do the following:

In Origin, right-click the TS4 Game icon and choose "Game Properties"

Click on the "Advanced Launch Options" tab at the top

Click on the arrow under "When launching this game..." and choose "The Sims 4 64 bit"

Save and exit the properties window

TS4 should launch from Origin normally from now on.

My advanced options were already saved like that. I have been playing the Sims without problems. And now with this newest Sims 4 update ... Origin still installed the Legacy Edition without me asking.

So the fact that Origin installed the legacy edition today will not hinder my gameplaying?  the fact that the Legacy Edition does not work with some packs?

So, It's installed but I will still be able to play the normal SIMS4 version? Is that what you mean?

@Gwenna1981 - I'm sorry, I thought you were asking if you had to uninstall everything in order to play the 64-bit version. And, like I said, you don't have to uninstall the LE version. Launch the game from Origin, with the advanced settings set to the 64-bit version, and it should not be an issue.

Did the game open the LE version even with your advanced settings pointing it to the 64-bit version? If so, are you starting the game from a shortcut? You may just need to make a new shortcut so it opens the correct version. Let me know if you need help with that.

I understand that the LE got installed for no reason. I've had Origin try to do that with mine as well. I *think* that Origin will install the LE version if you click "Upgrade", instead of "Update" for the patch. At least, that's been my experience with it. It's annoying, especially if you don't notice it and/or you're on a limited data plan. But having the LE version downloaded doesn't actually interfere with your ability to play the 64-bit game. Even if you open a save with the LE version, and it tells you it has removed items from the game because you don't have the packs installed, your saves should be safe as long as you quit without saving.

I hope I'm answering your question better. Please let me know if I've misunderstood, or if you have it set to 64-bit but it opened the 32-bit anyway
