Sims 4 : Autonomy Issue

When you have your sims set to Autonomy they tend to sometimes not go to work. So, I have one family that I play and my husband plays his own character in a different household but in the same town. We have found that when he or I am playing in our respective households the other characters will sometimes not go work. That seems like something that should be a high priority to the Sim.
