scoutthecat  Look for a BIOS update for your motherboard.  Find the exact model number, google "[model number] support," and you should see a product page from the manufacturer.  Look for a Support/Download tab, and compare the newest BIOS version to what you have installed.

The reason I suggest this is that on newer high-powered Intel CPUs and performance-tier motherboards, the board often applies what turns out to be an unstable overclock by default.  Newer BIOS versions have been rolling out to address the issue, but not all boards have received an update.

If you don't have a newer BIOS version, or installing it doesn't help, please try disabling CPU Turbo Boost, which will be buried somewhere deep within the Advanced BIOS settings and might be called something slightly different.  This is the cuplrit most of the time.

If that doesn't help either, please provide a dxdiag.  Hit Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

I realize that starting with a BIOS update is kind of backwards, but this is a significant known issue on your processor and others like it, and you've already checked the boxes for the basic troubleshooting steps.
