I updated the app as it told me to today but now when I go to start up The Sims 4 it says it's already running in the background, and I get an error sign.

If those don't help, please let me know what antivirus you use; and whether OneDrive is running, even if you never use it, and how full it is.
Hello, not sure if you are still having trouble. But for me, that happens when I click the app too many times and my laptop tries to open it twice. I have 2 origin icons (shown in picture) which will result in the same error message as you. To resolve this, you have to force quit the app; or me on a MacBook Air the controls are option+ctrl+esc. Which then opens a menu for me to close the 2 apps and my game will no longer give those error messages.

If your game is running in the background if using a laptop take three fingers and swipe up and you should see the game, just click on it to open again. hope this helps
