sims won’t recognize my video card

I’ve been playing with the nvidia GeForce rtx 4060 and it never once said this before? I updated the driver but it still says this message. And every time I download gshade and try to use gshade it breaks my game (gshade worked before I got the most recent sims 4 update). So I’m pretty sure gshade is the reason why my game crashes when it’s on now but I don’t understand why my video card isn’t being recognized..

  • I ended up changing the graphicscards sgr file and added my graphics card into the list and then put it in the config override folder in the sims 4 and then it worked. But at first it wasn’t working for me because I was putting the wrong device number in.

  • MoLaNa313  Would you mind listing the exact changes (not adding the GPU to the .sgr file, the others) for future reference?  I don't have an affected laptop to test with, so I rely on reports from other players for additional troubleshooting steps to try.

    Hi,

Thank you so much for the links.

I ended up adding my graphics card manually to the sgr file, changing my graphics setting and messing with my ransomware protection settings before tha game started up right and my gallery saved without an issue.

  • CRUZADO_101  Please list your GPU's device ID, as seen in the Graphics Device Info section of Config.log, which is in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4.

Would you mind helping me? Because my graphics card is also not recognized. I put in graphics sgr then in config override but it does not seem to work.

Where shall I put the nvidea geforce rtx 4050?

  • euphoricmadi  Glad you got it fixed.

MoLaNa313  The flashing is a known issue on certain HP gaming laptops.  Aside from using the iGPU, there are a few known workarounds:

None of these works for everyone, but something almost always does, so keep trying the workarounds until you find one that lets you play.

For the rest, it sounds like your antivirus might be blocking the game, or parts of it.  Please see the first post of this master thread:

Hi, I have a Victus by HP gaming laptop with a Geforce RTX 4060 too and last week I had to reinstall my OS and the game too. Ever since then The Sims 4 has the same issue for me too. It won't recognize my graphics card, will flash and won't launch unless I set System/Display/Graphics settings to Inter(R) UHD Graphics.

Even after that, my Gallery won't save anything, not to my Library, or online. I can not save to galery at all, bu it lets me download without an issue....

I tried a bunch of thing I have seen in this forum recommended for similar issues, but nothing worked so far.

If you find a fix, I would be interested too because this is driving me a bit nuts.....
